In the video posted 1 day ago…some of the exercises was the entire stack, some were almost the entire stack and others were 1/2 to 3/4 stack
I see that he did use the entire stack on some of the exercises in these latest posted videos. I was looking at other videos . It’s clear he’s using to much weight as in many exercises he pauses at least two breaths at the bottom of each rep. That’s almost like rest pause? On the calf raises he couldn’t go high enough with out that little kick and much of it he’s straining his utmost to finish a set. Not at all my idea of what a proper Jones/ Nautilus set should look like unless all these years I’ve been misled how a proper set should look! So much for the stoic relaxed face , ha ha.

Average Al, were you able to find any more about this book, it could be most interesting !
Boyer also used/preferred a split routine for that contest…similar to what Dorian Yates used.
Boyer prefers to train everyday at 4 or 5 am using split routines like you said
At least that’s what he told Drasin during an interview many years ago
Found this in a flex mag from the mid 90s, seems he was training every other day on a 4 way split at his biggest
GH itself is not a great muscle builder. It is great for tendon, ligament and overall recovery, but not for muscle itself. I wouldn’t be surprised if Boyer hadn’t added in more 90s style drug cycles (mainly more and longer cycles) which is why he was bigger and potentially insulin as well which can help with growth.
IMO, that is possibly true if the “itself” is emphasized. The use of GH greatly increased the amount of muscle mass the top competitors were presenting on stage.
Someone I know sent Coe an email about his training thoughts. Coe responded. Basically said a split routine similar to Yates with multiple exercises per muscle, warm-ups, etc.
With all due respect Dr, Arnold and Mentzer had better physiques than Boyers “black and white”
days.
Heck Mentzer looks better than Coe while he is fully clothed and training him.
It’s not the GH. It’s the insulin that is why guys in the 90s were so much bigger than the guys in the 80s. As I said in my post GH does a lot a for tendon, ligament and overall recovery, but it does not build muscle. It helps extend careers which means a bodybuilder gets more productive years of training to build more muscle with steroids and insulin.
I had always heard. It isn’t just the GH and it isn’t just the insulin, but it is the synergy of them both together.
So, you believe bodybuilders could have been just as big without the use of GH? Or, as you put it, the increased recovery is critical for further stimulus. Those that I knew that took GH (and they did do insulin also) decreased the weight and increased volume. Injuries would be less as a result of the weight reduction alone.
You are correct there is great synergy between GH and insulin when used together.
And you are on to what I was trying to get at originally. GH doesn’t built muscle itself, but if it helps you recover better and faster, and lengthens a training career so you get more quality years then it leads to more muscle. Which going back to the original point of Boyer, it would have helped him come back to train at his age for the Masters in the 90s.
GH is a good reason you are probably seeing most Mr Olympias pushing late 30s - 40s any more. And why an athlete like Tom Brady can still perform to the level of QBs half his age.
