How Many Eggs?

Berardi just posted an article on 4 of the biggest fitness related myths.

JB:
"1) The Cholesterol Myth
Eating eggs leads to high cholesterol levels
Adults are continually told that eating foods rich in cholesterol can elevate an individual’s risks of atherosclerosis and heart attacks. As egg yolks are a major dietary source of cholesterol, this has made them public enemy #1.

However, research studies consistently show that dietary cholesterol intake does not correlate well with blood cholesterol - in other words, eating foods rich in cholesterol does not necessarily increase blood cholesterol or cardiac risk. Because the body makes its own cholesterol, eating more means the body produces less. And eating less means the body produces more. It’s only a small % of the population that doesn’t regulate blood cholesterol well - and in these individuals, blood cholesterol can be high regardless of dietary intake.

If blood cholesterol is a concern, the best way to deal with it is to increase exercise activity and improve the overall quality of your diet - not to eschew foods because they contain cholesterol."

Good show Modi. I heartily agree.

I have nothing to add except that I eat 90 eggs per week.

I think its pretty weak how “an egg” actually means an egg white, to most people even in this thread. Like “I was 8 eggs…and 2 yolks”. Instead of “I eat 2 eggs and 6 whites”

eat whole eggs, or send your yolks to me. I’d rather throw the whites away than the yolks, what a waste!

My bad I didn’t realize people would get so offended…

does this mean i will be eating 10 whole eggs? nahhhh probably not because i eat a big ass brekfast besides just eggs (force feed oatmeal)

4 eggs + 4 whites? most likely i like to get nutrients from the rest of my diet also not just the brekfast portion

thanks everyone for all the input i’ve been calling her out a couple times here and there along with my dad because he is her accomplice.

thanks again

6 eggs, half a brick of cheese, and a cup of oats. Along with the olive oil I cook in, and possibly a glass of milk, I eat about 1200 calorie breakfasts. Delicious!

I was going to post Berardi’s thing, but I was beat to the punch.

Sounds like someone should divorce his mommy. You’re a man for God’s sake, act like one. Tell her you’re eating the fucking eggs. It’s your life, not hers. End of discussion.

HAHAHA YES!!

I also love eggs… my mama doesn’t mind buying them for me

But there is no way you’re going to convince your mom that this is healthy. Moms look for stuff to worry and nag about, it’s what they do.
Quoted for truth.

Other than the raw guys are you guys frying, boiling, scrambling?

omletttteeeeee mmmmmmmm

Sounds like your mother needs a bit of nutritional education. She’s worried about eggs yet she drinks beer and probably eats tons of processed boxed crap?

I’m an old fart (35), I eat two dozen eggs per week, generally one third to one half of those are whole eggs, rest are whites. I’m 213# @ 9% or less BF with a TOTAL cholesterol of 115. Tell her you’ll at least live to be 35 like me.

I say cut the egg white thing and just eat whole eggs. No offense, your mom doesn’t seem to know a lick about nutrition (neither does mine, or most folk I know). Unless she is standing over your shoulder or makes your bfast she probably bases her decision on seeing 9 egg shells laying in the trash or missing from the case.

Cut a deal where she buys you some steak or breakfast meat, and you only eat 4 eggs instead of 9.

In her mind 4 is less than 9 so its win-win. Not to mention you get steak and eggs in the morning. And you get all the nutrients in the yolks.

Fighting with your moms is silly. Storming out of a room pissed because she threw out some eggs is immature. Your 20 yrs old, your mom is getting older, why cause senseless crap drama in your house over something like eggs.

Especially since it sounds like your mom is just trying to look out for you, so its not like she is one of these horrible mothers some people get stuck with. Shit, how bad would you feel if something happened to you mom (god forbid) and the last interaction you guys had was you throwing a temper tantrum over some damn eggs bro…

Think of a mature way where both of you walk away thinking you won. Even if you have to cut it down to just 4 egg whites a morning with a side of bfast meat to finish up the protein. Its still in moderation so she can rest easy she did her job saving you from high cholesterol, and you still get your protein.

Or just let it slide till you move out (which should be soon). Its not like another yr without eggs in the morning will ruin the rest of your lifting life.

And my bad if I got it wrong and you are venting online, I just hate seeing a mom trying to do her best and getting her kid disrespecting her, when there are so many parents out there who aren’t good parents. If she is adamant about you not eating 9 eggs, just let it slide and eat all the other food she gets.

Good luck

It sounds more like you’re on a diet. Anorexics eat tons of egg whites. Your mother is confused.

If you want to gain, add regular peanut butter, nuts, power bars, fruit juice, healthy bread, and shakes.

its something the previous generation has to come to terms with, the nutritional information they know is redundant and moot. Eat the egg. At university i was eating on average 10 boiled eggs a day, my cholesterol was fine.

Why not just suggest an experiment where you eat all the eggs you want for six weeks or something and then get your cholesterol checked?

So in the morning I eat 9 egg whites with oatmeal, milk and some fruit…

This sounds stupid but I have to go out and buy my own eggs because my mom thinks I’m killing my body. She said 9 egg whites a day is horrible for me and I will end up dieing young… I told her they contain no cholestorol(sp) or fat and some people even put in the yokes because they contain good nutrients that your body needs… she still didnt’ beleive me… she wants evidence now and will not buy me eggs when she goes shopping. This sounds like a really childish thing but I really want her to not worry so damn much.
She is right and you are wrong. Move out and eat only raw eggs with boiled rice and tell her you want to commit slow suicide. . .

Google Anthony Colpo…and buy your mom the book…mmmm don’t you just love eggs!

eggs are the cheapest thing on my grocery list.

buy them yourself with spare change.

only complain if she starts to nix the chicken and beef; now THAT gets expensive.

I think this whole “eggs raise your cholesterol and are bad for your heart” thing has been debunked for awhile. Anyone who says eggs aren’t healthy for you are ignorant and needs to get with the times. I mean, all it takes is a simple google search.

I’m sorry, but I just get so pissed off everytime someone mentions (or of others mentioning) that eggs are bad for you. I only eat 4 whole eggs a day, and everyone also gives me shit for it. But when I point out how physically fit and healthy I am compared to them, they shut up right away.

Freaking over how bad egg whites (no cholesterol, no fat) are just proves how ignorant your Mom is. My whole family is ignorant like that. I’m sick of it. Don’t be afraid to talk back to her and prove her wrong. It’s time to school her on REAL facts and not bullshit hearsay circling around the general public.

Basically, a large egg contains about 5g of fat. But ONLY 0.4g of it is saturated. The rest are polyunsaturated fats, the good kinds of fats that lower cholesterol levels.

Recent studies also show that intaking dietary cholesterol has very little, if any, effect at all on your serum (blood) cholesterol levels.

Like others have probably mention, the yolk contains all essential amino acids as well as important vitamins and minerals including choline.

So next time when she asks you for evidence that prove eggs are healthy… turn it around and ask her for evidence as to why eggs are bad for you… I guarantee she’ll say something stupid like… “oh, I… uh… heard it from somewhere and t was on TV.”
