How Many Calories Are in Oats?

So I might be eating a lot more than I thought because quaker oats on the box says 27g of carbs per 1/2 cup but online there are all kinds of different numbers. I eat two cups dry of oats for breakfast and this apparently is either 600kcal or like 1200. But at this point I no longer know how much I’m eating.

If you have the nutrition label right on the box, why would you still look online? Use the numbers the box says.

I sometimes use Quaker’s 3-minute steel cut oats, which has 31g carbs/170 calories per 1/3 cup, so what you’re finding online is a generalization and will vary slightly brand to brand.

Most brands of oatmeal list 300 calories for one cup of dry oats. By the way, I have been having Flavahan’s brand oatmeal for the past month and it’s like crack. 360 cals, 11 grams protein, 63 grams of carbs, and I forgot the fat content. Get it! :slightly_smiling:

That sounds good. If you were to weigh a serving would you do it in ounces or grams?

All you need to know is indicated in the container so you just have to check it out when you buy your favorite oat brand. You don’t have to worry about anything because oats are generally healthy calorie-wise.

Either ounces or grams is fine-whatever gives you the appropriate macros you want. I go by cup measure.

150 for half a cup dry.

I love oats.
Usually I have 1 cup in the morning with a handful of berries for breakfast.

Just wondering how much oats most people usually eat??

1 cup is satisfying but there are days where I feel I could easily down 4 cups.

I did a cup of steel cut oats and started getting soft, very quickly (they are significantly more dense than rolled oats). I do half cup.

In a bowl, the night before:

1/2 cup steel cut oats
Cinnamon
1 cup milk
1/2 cup Greek yoghurt
2T raisins

Throw it in the fridge. Wake up, stir, add chia seeds and optionally fresh fruit, nuts or other seeds.

This is a brilliant way to eat them instead of cooking (especially in summer)
