How Low is Low? 50 ng/dl

57 year old male here.
I was on TRT for some time, but with covid things changed. I have been more aware lately that i was generally not getting much quality sleep and overall just tired etc. I went back to the doctor yesterday to review my blood work and was told that I was at 50 and “normal is about 300-700”.
when i first got on TRT about 5-6 years ago my level was 180 if i recall correctly. for several months i had no shots at all and then perhaps one every 2-3 weeks in last 2 months. (My fault on that part, as I just was not making it the priority it should be)

I likely did some ill advised searching and it appears I’m at a really good level (if I was a 10 year old boy or 17 year old girl)… just was curious if 50 is low but nothing crazy etc… general opinions on what that level means etc… did get my first shot yesterday and sent me home with supplies for the at home game. lol

Your doctor states 300-700 is normal, but did he mention the cardiovascular risks below 440 ng/dL. You should be concerned with what’s healthy, at which level your symptoms disappear.

Your body functions optimally somewhere within the reference ranges and it may not necessarily be at 300. There are studies that show men have symptoms of Low-T between 300-400.

You are asking if 50 is healthy without any reference ranges given, but if you raise your levels higher and your symptoms are gone, then you have your answer.

If we are talking about Total T being at 50, then it’s absurdly low.

Dude, get some T in you, stat! Low T is what causes most issues when we age.

50 ng/dL is extremely low if that’s your total testosterone. If that is the case, Imo, trt is a no brainer.

That probably means 300-700 are approximate normal lab ranges.

It’s low and it’s crazy.

To put it into context, many men start trt at around 300 ng/dL, and many had symptom resolution with trt.

Before starting testosterone injections, my total T was 170, and I felt like ass. My doc said she has 80 year old men coming into her office complaining of low t symptoms, and their Total T isn’t as low as mine was. So yes, 50 is low.
