Looking back at what i consume i notice i actually don’t get enough “water” in. I drink fluids but not specifically a lot of water.
How important actually is water to aid in physical demands? I usually drink 2L of chocolate milk almost every day to add a easy 1200 calories. And sometimes i drink soda at work because it’s free… and in between i’ll probably have maybe 2L of water?..
My body weight is 128kg, 6"2. I gym 5-6 times a week. I am a strength athlete and compete in powerlifting & strongman contests.
Any advice? I was planning to drink 5L of water throughout the day, plus the 2L of chocolate milk
I would definitely drink at least 5 liters. You said you’re a strongman and powerlifter and drink 2l of chocolate milk and soda so you probably do your fair share of dirty bulking which makes water even more important to help digestion.
First i’m tempted to tell you to not drink soda, but if you’re competing successfully you must see a benefit in it - so i;ll shut the hell up and save the preach for some chubby little kid. Water is hugely important on a molecular and cellular level for athletes, but what is really the important thing is maintaining a proper fluid balance, not just drinking water to drink water. In general this is pretty easy, eat fruit and vegetables also adds to your water intake. Also milk, juice and anything caffeine-free also can be an alternative to tap water.
I think a lot of athletes will get enough later on in the day but not enough in the morning.
You sweat a ton in your sleep & wake a little dehydrated but many will just have a coffee with their breakfast.
I’ve made it a habit of drinking a pint of water with breakfast & actually have noticed quite a difference in how I feel through out the day.
