How Has Covid Affected You?

Have some family in the Cities. Just wondered.

You are in SD right? I have a friend in Rosebud, and one that used to live in White River. Been out that way a few times. It is a bit rougher than you would expect central SD to be.

Yes.

Assuming you mean…poor, essentially? Then yes, haha. My family is from Cheyenne River, which is N of Rosebud, but I was just on Rosebud a few nights ago. It (and every other reservation here) sucks. I’m glad I don’t live there.

Very much that, but also kinda I hope my car doesn’t break down at night.

My friend in White River lived in a kinda wooded valley off the highway. On one occasion at least he had people coming down his driveway middle of the night, and had to fire a couple shots. His neighbor also had a B&E and had to run out of his house and fire upon the burglars.

My friend in Rosebud has had car and house windows broken. Stuff stolen. Just rough overall I guess.

This is what I assumed you meant.

In that case, absolutely so. It’s interesting - I think people forget (or are just completely unaware) of how completely broken, poor, violent, and desolate these places in our own backyards are.

We are running low on toilet paper. Have not bought any since before the “panic.” Walmart has started shutting down 12am-6am to clean and restock, and when I got there at 6:05, there was still no TP!

Target, Menards, the two grocery stores, and most gas stations are also empty.

Guess I’ll start saving newspapers.

Lol ow.

You have probably tried this but have you looked at Lowe’s/home Depot? They carry cleaning supplies and I do believe toilet paper as well.

Do you have a shower? hose yourself off in the event you run out of TP

Tissues or kitchen roll cut in half.

Improvise, adapt, overcome.

We have some paper towels. Are planning on using them when we run out of TP. No tissues.

Shower head is not detachable, but with some hand action a butt crack could be cleaned in there I suppose.

No other stores in town, just: Walmart, Target, Menards, and two grocery stores. It’s somewhat small.

I’m not really panicking guys, I was just saying it in a more humorous way. I’m sure some will show up somewhere sometime. If not, I’ll have to lead a raid of those who have bundles and bundles of it stashed in their garages.

As a point, whenever I hoard a potential valuable commodity, I also hoard brass

Like back in highschool driving by open garages and stealing beer out of fridges. Stay low, dress dark and run like the wind.

I’m out in the Hill Country but would love come watch you train. Think I may be a little past my prime to hang with the big dogs…lol but I would give it a shot.

Of course BBQ and beer sounds good too @studhammer!

Not that everything that went on “back in the day” was cool and good for you, but man did kids do more. Like they did just did plain MORE stuff. My parents aren’t even that old - grew up in the 80’s and 90’s but they have stories like that and it’s a struggle to get peers off the phones and outside for a simple walk around the neighborhood these days.

I grew up in the 70s-80s and we literally rode our bikes every single day in the summer, swam about 4 days a week and walked to school during the school year until we were old enough to drive.

We also mowed lawns and painted houses for money.

Agreed. I became a teen in the early 2000’s, and was not really an outlier in the troublemaking department. Most of us just did what we thought would be fun and if we got in trouble, we would get a tongue lashing from our parents.

Cell phones just started creeping into internet territory and Facebook/Myspace was huge, but you wouldnt sit in front of your desktop all day (well… I did some days while recording music…)… that was another huge thing. I was in a band and had friends in bands. Many many craazzzyyyy nights and weekends doing mini tours or shows.

My parents also had a ton of crazy stories growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. They were badass and they didn’t shy away from telling the stories either, kind of told them like they were proud. It made me realize that forging your own path is a part of growing up.

Kids will be kids, but kids now a days are so petrified of getting their hands dirty, speaking their minds and doing what they want. It’s frustrating to see how anxious and depressed they have become. They have to be able to say fuck it and just do what makes them happy but they don’t have the confidence or support (parental or friend circle) to do so. Everyone is so wrapped up in their own world that they forget any sort of true social connection.

It seems like posting videos on the internet of a group of kids being loud in a department stores and shit is seen as fun now a days. Gotta get them likes right?

I don’t know about your mom, but mine would tell me… you need to go outside and do something! I’m trying to clean. And don’t get shit dirty when you come back in!

We are around the same age and in Ireland growing up it was out of the house at 9am at the latest and don’t come back until tea time, 5pm, then out until it started getting dark. We’d cycle to the beach with a packed lunch and spend all day there, go fishing, build dens, make go carts, hunt with dogs, we’d play football (soccer) starting in the morning and it would go on all day with different people joining in and in the evening when the score was 123 - 96 it would be next goal the winner!

I’m looking back with rose tinted specs but it really was a better life and prepared you for life. You learned to fight, assess risk, how to work together to achieve things. We even learned war tactics having stone battles with neighbouring streets. Great times.

Yes! Your bicycle tire went flat? We didn’t run out and buy a new one. You learned to fix it! Take care of what you had, things weren’t disposable back then.
