How Does HIIT Work?

Then the data, or the interpretation, is flawed.

Pro sports are loaded with people whose parents were great athletes. Genetics + hard work beats all. Hard work with the wrong genetics only takes one so far.[/quote]

Those parents inevitably got their kids started training at an early age. You have to take into account the effect of training, especially at an early age.

No, some are adopted and their adoptive parents were not involved in sports at all. Some didn’t start playing ball until late in high school.

Elite athletes are born elite. Hard work may differentiate them from other genetically gifted athletes but genetics rules.

I also believe training age can make up for ‘bad genetics.’

My brother is extremely athletic and my parents do NOT have ‘athlete genes.’ He was involved in all sports at an early age, far earlier than myself or my sister. It shows now in his posture and athleticism, even though he does not train regularly for anything.

Why not cycle it like it was done for years by proffessional runners? First you build a volume like base and than you put more and more intensity.
So in the offseason you could start with running 2km and buil it up to 10km (I don’t see a point in running longre distances if you are not a runner). Then you decrease volume and bring up the intensity goin as low as you want or need (for you discipline).
I am doing something like this right now.

And when you think about fat loss when you are training 3+ times a week and running 2+ days a week (cardio, interval) and eating in a proper way there is no way you will not be happy with results.
