So how does everyone eat this stuff? I’ve tried the Quaker instant Oatmeal (just mix in with a bowl of water and microwave for 2 mins) and I can’t stand it. I’ve tried a variety of flavours, etc. but can barely get it down. I’ve tried the normal Oatmeal and it’s worse… I’d rather dump 12 scoops of that Leucine powder in my mouth dry and chew on it…
What I’ve done in the past that did work, is I’d go to Costco, get their big 6-8 flat of eggs and then spend an afternoon cracking the eggs and seperating out the yokes… I’d then mix in 3-4 BOXES (yeah all the packages in the box) with the egg whites in a huge bowl… Then I’d take that “mix” and slap it into a waffle iron and make waffles out of it. I could then freeze these and in the mornings when I don’t have a lot of time, I’d throw 4 of these in the toaster to heat them up and whola!
Now someone else suggested the following (that I’m going to try this week):
1 cup of oats
1 handful of cashew nuts
2 scoops of protein powder
Mix in your water and blend and drink it down
Quick oats are better than instant oatmeal, or so I’ve been told. I use quick oats with water heated up in the microwave. I eat them plain (but nuts would be good). I save my protein powder for drinks and eat eggs whites, tuna and Greek yogurt for all other protein.
1 cup egg whites
2 whole eggs
2/3 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
2/3 cup strawberry//raspberry jam
2 tablespoons baking powder
3-4 cups steel cut oatmeal
slap it in a glass baking pan, and bake at like 375 for 35 minutes, then put it in the fridge usually lasts me 3 breakfasts, pretty damn good imo
I put 2-3 cups of just plain oats (not instand or quick oats) into a bowl, pour enough milk in to cover the oats and somtimes some cannola or vegtable oil. Put it in the microwave for 2 minutes, add some more milk (yes cold milk) then I grab a nice big spoon and eat it.

Anyone tried that one?
Or how do you eat your oats/oatmeal?[/quote]
Well, I tried the shake thing tonight as I had a bit of a craving after picking up the stuff from the grocery store…
I ended up picking up organic steel cut oats and some organic cashews… Bought enough for a week’s worth and it cost me under $8 for it all… So not too bad for a full week…
I chucked in two scoops of chocolate protein powder, with the 100g of oats and a handful and nuts and mixed it up…
It didn’t turn out the way I was hoping… I was expecting just a thicker shake than normal… Maybe it’s due to the steel-cut oats? Anyways, I ended up with a thicker shake for about 1 cup of the way down, then a thick sludge of ground oats/cashews and protein shake…
So I ended up scooping this all out and pouring it into a bowl like a cereal…
Man was this good… But definately not what I was expecting for a shake…
I eat my oat bran plain, sometimes with golden raisins.
My most frequent oat-based meal takes some time to cook, but it’s worth it. I use 80-100g steel cut oats, putting them in a small pan with just a little more water than needed to cover them. I’ll slow cook them on a burner and add frozen fruit (blueberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, fresh diced apples, etc. any combination of the above). Then I’ll throw in some salt and a spoon of Splenda. Cook, remembering to stir frequently, until the water is all gone or to your desired consistency. I like mine as sort of a grainy gruel. After, I sometimes add 13g of wheat germ and or ground flax seed.

I’ve eaten whey and oats like this many times, you just need to use a spoon like cereal.
If you can find old fashioned rolled oats those blend a lot easier, you shouldn’t need a spoon.
I microwave my oats with water. When done I add a sliced banana and some honey. Occasionally I add a little whey protein in to boost the protein content, but not often as I have a shake immediately upon waking and 6 scrambled eggs after eating my oats. I usually have just over 100g dry measurement of oats.
I put sultanas in mine, cover with water, then mix in a handful of blueberries. Microwave for 4 mins then mash in a tablespoon of peanut butter and a banana. Heaven.
1 scoop whey
1 scoop chocolate MD
1 cup frozen berries
1 cup oats cooked
1/2 cup oats dry
pour the protein shake onto the oats and cook on the hob.
While it’s still runny add the berries. Wait a minute and throw in the final dry 1/2 cup of oats.
(Saw this trick posted on the boards, great way to get extra oats down you).
If I’m feeling fancy, I make ‘Hawaiian oatmeal’.
1 scoop whey
1 scoop banana MD
1 cup oats cooked
1/2 cup oats dry
1 cup pineapple
6 slices Canadian Bacon.
Cook oats as in recipe above, serve with fresh pineapple and microwaved canadian bacon on top.
This stuff is freaking delicious.
Kudos on the oat-waffle idea. I’ll definitely be giving that a go.
