Hostile to Religion on Campus

Come on. You can’t seriously be comparing the inappropriateness of a live fucking crocodile in a group setting to the inappropriateness of an openly-gay person in a church-focused interest group?
I was making a point about relativism. Also, he’s trying to argue against the right of a Christian church to exclude non-Christians yet the example he gives is an Indian Student group that DOESN’T allow people who aren’t Indian students to join.
It’s not a church it’s a Christian GROUP. We have one of those on our campus. They’re constantly around trying to ‘convert’ people. They host fundraiser and stuff like that.

But honestly, what’s a gay guy doing trying to hang around with Christians. They can’t possibly have the same beliefs or even interests. I’m surprised the group didn’t stone this guy.

And for everyones information, I’m part of the reggae club at my school. Jamaican rum Wednesdays be the shit yo!
Depends on the gay guy. If you got one of them militant, nelly gays, who tries to stuff their view of reality down everybody’s throat then it’s oil and water. If you have a person who is genuinely interested in faith and learning about God, then I have no problem with that. They have to reconcile their ‘gayness’ with the Almighty and that’s their business.

The difference is the focus. Presumably, a “Christian Group” focus is going to be faith a religion. If a gay person is going their to shove their gayness down the Christian’s throat, he will be (rightly) shown the door. If he is there to learn about faith and God, then there should be no issues.

Of course, there are more and less tolerant groups around but I always thought the whole “Openly Gay” crap to be kind of strange anyway. Why do you feel compelled to tell everybody your sexual preferences as a matter of surface level acknowledgement?

I don’t go around saying, “Hey I am pat and like like to put my dick into women!”

So you think someone’s sexual orientation is their personal business and no one else’s?

As long as the keep it to themselves, yes. You don’t tell me, I won’t know.

You don’t have to say anything if you’re straight. Straight is the default position.

It’s not so much about bringing it up, as it is about not hiding it.

We’d bring our wives/girlfriends to a get together with coworkers… They’d bring their same sex partners. Is that bringing it up to you?

I think the whole pride thing is a response to bullying and hatred from some religious people. I mean Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson blamed the 9/11 attacks on gays.

Speaking of the ghey…

And the current GOP front runner is a member of the same organization that helped pass this unconstitutional amendment.

If partners are invited to an event, I would not consider bringing them a form of bringing up unasked for information.
You must be very young, Gay pride has been around a loooong time…way before 9/11.

A guy from Utah got a bill passed in California? How’s that work?

And so is hatred of gays. I was using a semi-recent example to illustrate my point.

Intense dislike, or ill will.

Today?

Well there are some predominately Christian/Muslim nations where it’s highly illegal.

Then as I said you have some leaders such as Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell blaming terrorists attacks on homosexuals.

A “panel”, not the full 9th Circuit Court (a rogue court which has a vast majority of its decisions overturned by the USSC - the ones that are appealed to the USSC) of judges declared it unconstitutional.

It was a 2 -1 decision.

So two guys from the most liberal court in the US decided they thought it was unconstitutional. That does NOT make it unconstitutional.

“Reihardt (one of the 9th’s most liberal judges), who was appointed to the appeals court by President Jimmy Carter, was joined in the majority opinion by Judge Michael Hawkins, an appointee of President Bill Clinton.”

FWIW, I’m not sure how a federal court can overturn an amendment to a state constitution at the appellate level. Someone care to enlighten me?
If the statute/amendment in question is taken to local court on the grounds that a constitutional violation has occurred then the case can eventually find itself in front of a federal appellate court. Since state law cannot violate the Constitution, no matter how that law comes into being, the appropriate court to hear any appeal is one that rules on federal issues. The next step after this is to go to the U.S. Supreme Court. We see state statutes and amendments challenged in tons of USSC cases. Most civil rights cases from the 50’s and 60’s consist of a challenge to a state law, usually under the 14th Amendment, that they allege violates the Constitution.

Also, the 9th Circuit Court hears by far the most amount of cases per year, which at least partially explains why they have so many cases end up in front of the Supreme Court.

C’mon man…
I’m not denying that it isn’t a liberal court. But that liberality isn’t the inherent, singular cause of their high reversal rate at the U.S. Supreme Court level, that’s all.

Uh yes, hatred, bigotry, racism, etc. has always existed.

What “Christian” countries do you know of where homosexuality is illegal? I know of zero.

Islam is stuck in the middle of a epic identity crisis. Where a country has a theocracy/ dictatorship they are mired in old world fundamentalism. I am vehemently against theocracies, or dictators… They hate everybody, not just gays.
