Hook Grip Is Much Better Than Mixed Grip

Honestly surprised he hasn’t made the switch already. He’s been pulling double over (with straps) for about the last decade and has missed countless deadlifts due to grip when pulling mixed. Makes sense to go hook. Cant wait to see him pull something insane that way.

Cause and Effect

He has one of the biggest back imbalances I have ever seen.

Honestly the Hook vs Mixed “debate” makes me question humanity and our ability to progress as people.

Eh, he’s been fucked up since the early days. I only pull mixed grip and haven’t had a problem with any imbalance, but I do a fuck ton of back work. A lot of single and double arm work. I’m not positive but I feel like I remember him having scoliosis or something and also all the disc issues. Either way, I’ve seen how many people should pull hook to progress so hopefully they do it and blow records out of the park.

Interesting to see Josh Bryant say that he has his lifters use straps in training if they use mixed grip - he uses other movements to train grip.

I think you missed the context of what he was saying, he said for bench-only lifters and people who don’t compete he advises against using a mixed grip because of the risk of bicep tears and imbalanced development.

Someone link Jamal Browner to this thread. Dude would be the best deadlifter right now if he could hold onto that shit. His strapped is like 100 lbs more than his comp lift
