Home Shed Gym 5/3/1 - Focusing on the Iron

5/3/1 Krypteia Week 1 3s Week, Session 3

Trap Bar Deadlift:
126kg x5
144kg x5
162kg x5
FSL 126kg 5x5

Chins BW only 2x10
Chest supported 1 arm row 20kg KB 3x10
Kneeling 1 arm KB press 16kg 5x10
3D band pullaparts x180
Donkey calf raises 16kg x100

All work complete inside of 40 mins
Followed by
Hanging leg raises 2x12
20 min weighted vest walk

Hands and fingers restricted chins to 2 broken sets of 10 but least I’m actually able to do some. Crazy I’ve still got the swelling!

@dagill2 ate far too much last night, made me remember why I only go to these types of places once or twice a year. On bird like calories today.

5/3/1 Krypteia Week 1 3s Week, Session 4

Incline bench press:
57kg x5
65kg x5
73kg x5
FSL 57kg 5x5

Goblet squat 32.5kg 5x10
SLDL 27.5kg 5x10
Pullaparts some

Main work done in 25 mins
Additional accessory:
DB unilateral skullcrusher 10kg 3x12
Empty barbell curls with fat gripz x100, 1st unbroken set got 41 reps
DB side lateral raise 2x12
1 mile walk

Happy with the skullcrusher reps, was a struggle doing 3x10 a few weeks ago on my right side but would seem my triceps are getting stronger on my right and strength imbalance is slowly correcting itself. Was getting some soreness in my right shoulder with the incline but I widened the grip a bit and the pain eased off.

Enjoyed this training week and having come off the back of the swing challenge the workouts haven’t been particularly taxing. Off on holiday today up to Scotland via Durham, managed to sneak in 2 KB’s and my bands as I’ve got more room in the car with my eldest being away with her mom.

Still got some work to do and a little bit of bloat but this is the start of Kypteia, looking forward to seeing the results

Looking good mate, especially those shoulders. You could use a better cameraman though.

Are you doing the full, original Krypteia from Forever?

Yeah it’s not really my forte taking pictures of any kind. Plus living with 3 other females mirror access is limited. I am running the Krypteia program out of forever doing the full 17 weeks

Excited to see how you go with it mate.

Banded bent over row 3x20
Hand release Press-ups x50
3D band Pullapart 3x20

Also got what I’d definitely put in the easy conditioning category yesterday with a 3 mile round trip walk to the beach I spent the entirety of it pushing my daughter in her wheelchair or with my youngest on my shoulders. There were some uphill bits which were quite steep and whilst I was pushing her along got me thinking about why I train.

To paraphrase @SvenG I’m training for life, yes it would be nice to have a specific purpose to train for such as when I was playing rugby throughout my 20’s but those days are gone, I’m training for something infinitely more important than any of that. It’s so I can push a 35kg girl in her wheelchair to the top of a hill so she isn’t excluded in any family activities and then be able to carry a 3 year old back down when she doesn’t want to walk.

What more can a parent do. 100% respect for you.

I jokingly said this over in my log yesterday about playing some tennis:

But this, folks:

THIS is what parents will do for their children.

And I can’t think of a better reason to keep getting after it like @aholding88 here! Well done, my friend. Keep up the good work!

I read that and thought who is cutting onions in here.

If that isn’t the “why” of all why’s I don’t know what is.

@rugby_lifting having followed your log for a while I’m in no doubt you’d be doing the same

@SvenG thank you, means a lot coming from you. Was thinking about your log when you were at your kids swim meet and you told one of the other dads you were training for life. It was a bit of a epiphany moment to be honest as I’ve been asking myself why recently

Should be going home early tomorrow morning in anticipation of a five hour drive. Glad I bought the KB’s with me this week, I also remembered this week how much early morning workouts suck without caffeine.

In other observations the south east coast of Scotland by the border is amazing. Despite it being school holidays it was remarkably quiet and relaxing. Edinburgh, during the fringe festival, is not ideal to take children unless you’re going for the actual festival.

I did a 4 and a bit hour drive on Friday, was supposed to be 3h 10m but had a motor way closed and traffic galore! Not fun at all

You go M1?
We did it last Friday and it was horrendous, left the West Midlands at 10 and didn’t get to Durham until nearly 5 albeit with a stop in Leeds after one of the kids barfed

Yes we did!

West Midlands hey, that’s where I live too!

Whereabouts? Who did you play for?

Conditioning
Hills x11 (1 more from last week) followed by 1.5 mile walk
Was going to add my weighted vest but the straps are in such a shit state I can only really use it for walking now, probably time to purchase another - if anyone has any recommendations for weighted vests up to 20kg please let me know.
