Quick question here as I’m in the market for a new barbell.
What is everyone’s recommended barbell?
I’m not looking to drop $500, so best bang for my buck would be ideal. I train mainly 5/3/1, very little olympic lifting. My current bar has a bend to it that is getting worse and worse (just a cheap, random bar I picked up from a gym surplus). Thanks!
I like Texas power bar. I’m a fan of good knurling. I like the grip, and its good for squats. I don’t do O lifts , so the spin isn’t important for me.
Any good bar new will be 250-350$ or so.
1 dollar a week for 1-2 years and your set for over 10 years. Keep the other bar for rack pulls or any other lift that’s abusive to the bar.
My home gym is the second best investment of my adult life!!
I only have experience with the texas power bar and deadlift bar for barbells. Both quality. Also got to vouch for the Ironmind Apollon’s Axle. Cheaper than the power bar, stiffer and super pretty. Bench and deadlift would be ok; squats would suck with it.
I still say American Barbells Training Bar. $250 plus shipping. They always have items listed as closeout on their site. You might pick this up for $200 if you check frequently but their closeouts don’t have a warranty.
@clee78 - thanks for the recommendation, I have heard this recommended by a few people now.
@ChickenLittle - I’ll check in with him for sure, thanks!
@T3hPwnisher - I do know you like that bar and I’ve been contemplating it. I do have my homemade axle that I enjoy using, but it doesn’t actually see a ton of use. I’m sure that would change significantly if I had the Ironmind though!
@Frank_C - Thanks, maybe I’ll start keeping an eye on their site. Good to have a few options!
I’ll likely be picking one up in the next couple months so wanted to get a few to keep my eye out for. Thanks all!
Ya I’m looking for a jack of all, master of none bar. Then there is also CT’s bar that he released on his Thib Army website that looks decent (plus it is made in and shipped from Canada) which would likely result in more reasonable shipping prices.
Ya, unfortunately this is often a major restriction of mine.
I just remembered that the guy I purchased my Atlas Stones off of mentioned that he gets great discounts on gym equipment (since he owns 3 Crossfit gyms), so I have emailed him and hopefully he can get me a decent deal on a good bar. Fingers crossed!
