Ha…Granted the democratic party constituency is made up of fringe entitlement groups. But there are some honest hard working democrats.
???
Don’t go overboard, my friend.

Many of my family are Democrats, and I can attest to the fact that they work hard and are honest, good people.

And while we’re at it, the unions played a legitimate role at one time, too. Some of my (now deceased) family spent their lives in the mills, working their asses off at dangerous jobs for pennies.

The present unions I won’t comment on.
I was just joking. I agree with you. My family/extended family are largely from a poor Labor voting/Union background. Not Commies or anything just working class Catholics. Most my extended family are still Labor voters and members of public service unions - Police, teachers etc. I spend a lot of time trying to convince them the Labor Party is no longer ‘the working mans’ party’.

meh, not even the staunchest democrats gave a shit. I certainly don’t let him war on with his little card board sword. Labor unions always vote democrat. No amount of fancy talk will change that.

Haven’t you guys figured it out? “Toning down the rhetoric” means toning down what the Reps can say about the Dems.

Example-

Wrong- The Democrats want to raise taxes and run deficit spending (Hateful becase it paints the Dems in a poor light)

Right- Let’s kill anyone that votes Republican (Tolerant because all Republicans are hateful, rich, white, greedy, corporate scum that want to destroy America and ride around in fancy yachts)

I say we call for a $1 trillion research committee to find scientific evidence of everytime the Republicans say anything a puppy dies.

Sorry to disapoint you but not all union members vote straight democrat.

And there are plenty of Republicans who are part of, and support, unions.

So you’re doubting my voting history now? Seriously?

Edit: not that I’m surprised it’s a slow day in here and your just looking at my avatar to make your judgement

No, not at all please don’t take offense to my post. I was just having some fun pointing out the fact that while we’ve all heard of and personally seen some union members vote for republicans for President it’s still pretty rare. In fact the last time that union members turned out in large numbers to vote for a republican candidate for President it was Ronald Reagan in 1984. Since then that has been one group, like African Americans, that is pretty much a lock for the democrat running for President.

Have a good weekend.

I think Unions are only going to skew more democrat from here on out. Governors like Kasich and Walker have screwed the pooch by trying to eviscerate unions instead of reforming them. It is not an “Us vs. Them” atmosphere which puts most unions voting to preserve their career, and not to further their ideals.

Most people can agree that unions have a place, but they’ve become monster of recapitulating greed and failure. Nowhere is that more evident than in Michigan. Just killing them and saying “too bad” isn’t a realistic option and as long as republicans keep trying to do that very thing, there will be a huge voter block entrenched for democrats.

No offense taken

Maybe my union affiliation is different from others, alot of us have side jobs or have our own business on the side. So while we have a union affiliation at work the rest of our ideals are pretty well grounded in wanting to succeed.

I think the other part at least from my side of the fence is that I can’t strike. And the whole “blue flu” thing won’t work because too many of us like working OT. So if we don’t agree on a contract we go to arbitration and a deal is worked out, while still working under the previous contract and report for duty as we are supposed to.

Depends on the union and location. While I agree that in Wisconsin and other areas they have been getting quite the sweetheart deal. Eventually the bubble was going to burst, especially when everybody else is paying more for healthcare and contributing more to their retirement.

What I don’t agree with is how it was done, there was a contract in place. Go back to the table and negotiate in good faith (I know they were dealing with teachers hard to do that). But both sides were guilty in Wis and some other areas, so how they couldn’t see this coming I don’t understand.

Anthony Weiner’s seat is about to be won by a Republican.

No one disbanded any unions. They only took away the special privilege union corporations had to strong arm both individual workers and the government. You can still join all the unions you want and workers can unionize all they want. They just don’t get more rights than non-union guys.

I never said any unions were disbanded, but instead of negotiating they passed a law to accomplish what they wanted. I wasn’t apart of what happened directly in Wis so I don’t know if there was negotiating prior to legislation or not.

And BTW isn’t there an SOP about facial hair?
