Hitting a Plateau and Struggling to Build Bigger Broader Shoulders

No not a reason at all haha.

I got prescribed through my doctor to address my hypogonadal symptoms. However, I’ve always struggled with delt development. If ease in delt development is a bonus, then I’ll take it!

Possibly. But the person’s genetic tendency to benefit from some additional androgens would be a determining factor.

Also, is it TRT or enhanced testosterone therapy? I wouldn’t think true TRT is a sufficient androgen level to achieve “swollen” delts. IMO, to get the massive delt/trap look it takes the genetics plus enhanced exogenous androgen/anabolic substances.

160mg weekly, just regular TRT. It’s giving me a stable supply. Without worrying about the impact of external stressors that impact natural production or my underlying hypogonadism. I’m ectomorph as well and have developed lats with ease however I lack broadness in my shoulders. They’re vascular, just not rounded off or massive.

IMO, you have an uphill battle ahead of you. But the extra androgen just might make for a visible improvement. Try a workout program that emphasizes shoulder development for a couple months. A heavy shoulder day and then a lighter “pump” delt and trap day. On the “pump” day focus on the feel of the delts and traps, trying get a full pump. On the heavy day try to increase your strength in an overhead press of some sort, working in the 5 rep area.

I appreciate all your feedback! I’m excited to see where the development goes going forward!

I’m certainly not @RT_Nomad in this arena and never competed nor judged, so take this with a big grain of salt: I’ve found (for me personally) that doing a ton of rear delt volume helped with some roundness to my shoulders. It at least seemed to prevent that sudden slope from the traps.

Whoops - I just saw I already posted that here 1000 years ago. Sorry; I already typed it out so it’s staying.

@TrainForPain makes an important point. You need to train all 3 heads of your deltoids. In most all people the rear delt head is usually the trailing head to develop. The bigger the rear delts get the thicker your delts look from the side.

You have mentioned how well your lats have progressed. This is good, but that benefit might be at the neglect of your rear delts contributing in lifts. Find a rear delt exercise where you can make the mind-muscle connection in your rear delts. You want to feel the rear delts flex and hopefully the pump as they fill with blood.

That’s great feedback! The sudden slope from the traps is one my current features. Hopefully that rear delt work will help with the roundness and help shape that area over time.

That’s a great point that my lats may be taking away the work that my rear delts could be doing. Finding a rear delt specific exercise that prevents the lats from being engaged may be that key.

The thicker delts from the front and the side perspectives are certainly what I’m after. I feel like it will balance my upper body out.

Thank you for the continued feedback.
