My spine hurts just watching that.
He has a couple random lifts like that…500 from an 8" deficit, some 500+ (can’t find the video) of a behind the back deadlift, he always seems to have fun with it, but he definitely has some outside the box lifts/workouts ha
why are you guys calling this semi-sumo? It isn’t. It’s a crappy deadlift, lol. Bar path is awful, use of leverages is awful. The OP clearly didn’t know what he was doing. Which is fine, it’s his first time doing it, and he likely hasn’t had much instruction. But justifying it by saying ‘this is just semi-sumo, it works for some people’ is garbage. Watch the damn lift, it clearly isn’t working for the OP.
EDIT: also, if you want to REALLY learn sumo, watch Duffin. He’s the best in the world at it. His hip mobility and set up is second to none.
Ya, I have to be honest…I haven’t watched the video (damn youtube restriction on my work laptop…) but I was defending the semi-sumo stance in general.
I think it’s clear that the OP’s INTENTION was to be pulling sumo-style based on what he said in his post. All he did in the video was widen his stance, and pull. And he ends up hitching too. It really looks bad. He doesn’t open his hips the way you would in a sumo or even semi-sumo stance. Semi-sumo still includes elements of a sumo deadlift… it isn’t just a wide-stance conventional deadlift. And I know you haven’t seen the video, so this isn’t all directed at you specifically. More the rest of the room.
That’s what I was getting at
