Highschool Student and PWO Shakes

I don’t have a job and can only have one in the summer. I don’t have access to online stores, so must rely on the local Wal-mart for my supplements. Which is ok, they sell Optimum 100% Whey which is what I use, but for carbs, they don’t have dextrose or maltodextrin, so I picked up a tub of gatorade powder.

I use 4 1/2 servings of gatorade (230 cals of pure carbs) and 1 scoop of whey for PWO (so roughly 50g carbs / 23g protein), is this ok for a PWO shake? (goal is to gain muscle)

Thanks guys.

isn’t all that gatorade a lot of sugar?

And your point…?

Need an insulin spike after workout… >_>

they usually recommend dextrose pwo, not plain, processed sugar.

You can always drink chocolate milk + whey powder as an alternate PWO drink.

How much weight have you gained?

Spiking before a workout is much better.

If you guys remember this kid, he should pretty much eat anything and everything he puts his hands on. Including small pets.

Just how feasable is holding the spike for an extended period of time? Surely you’d want it to extend to the period post workout as well.

Which is why you should spike it pre and post.

And Friedrice- still worrying about the minutia heh? Have you actually gained any weight whatsoever yet? Even 1 lb?

eengrms76 answered this nicely.

NOTE: with pre workout supplementation, insulin, blood sugar, and muscle blood flow will remain high throughout the workout, but you’ll need something shortly after.

If you can get to a wal-mart, you can get to a bulk barn, which sells dextrose aka corn sugar. Somewhere around 50-60 cents a pound.
