Fortunately for me, I have my own weights at home. I’m just concerned that there might be food shortages if they shut down the stores or make people stay home like they are doing in Italy. I wasn’t thinking of cutting until after the meet in May, but right now it looks like there might not be a meet.
It’s hard to believe all of this is actually happening
I know, it’s messed up. One weird thing though, have you seen anybody wearing N95 or surgical masks? I saw maybe 3 or 4 Chinese people wearing masks in the last couple weeks but that’s all. Apparently they are all sold out, but to who? Did someone buy them all so that the rest of us are more likely to get sick? It’s very strange, and you would think the mask factories would be pumping them out like never before.
I have seen a few, not a ton. And it is weird that they aren’t manufacturing way more of them. This is probably the only time surgical mask companies could have a temporary boom in profit
Good luck big fella
They is but demand is high and supply chains are fooked.
I’m wondering if I should max our my squat and deadlift today. I’m starting to worry the risk of the gum closing is too high and it would really suck to miss this opportunity to test my deadlift. (I don’t actually know if the gym is open today, I’ll see soon). I realized my friend has a bench in his basement that I could use in case the gym closed. I couldn’t deadlift there because he only has around 275lbs of plates. I have some plates myself, but still far from 400lbs. Would my deadlift strength be impacted if I did it after squatting? I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be
If you just benched and deadlifted yesterday then there is no point in testing anything right now because you aren’t fully recovered and therefore you aren’t peaked. You would just be setting yourself up for disappointment.
If I was you, I would wait and see what is going on with the gym, if it close then so be it but at least you know you can still lift at your friend’s place. Obviously the weights are too light for any heavy training for you, at least on squat and deadlift, but you can do higher reps, speed work/CAT/cluster sets, and other hypertrophy-focused stuff like RDLs or high bar squats. Just be glad that you can train, because a lot of people can’t.
Well, I maxed out my squat today.
I’m almost certain the gym is closing tomorrow, or at the latest day after tomorrow. I decided to max our my squat. It really didn’t go as well as I hoped. I was hoping for 445lbs-455lbs. I took almost a full scoop of preworkout, which I’ve only done twice before. Weirdly enough, I think this actually made it harder for me to focus. I know this makes no sense, but I had this kind of out of it feeling the other times I did it, and I’m starting to think it’s not a coincidence. I had half a scoop one time and felt great energy and focus from it. I ended up with 425lbs to depth, and 445lbs to parallel. Overall, not happy with how it went. Im almost certain I would’ve performed better had I rested a few more days, but I figured getting some lift in today would be better than nothing. I’ll post videos tomorrow.
Yup, just got the news that my gym isn’t reopening tomorrow
Off to the Corona Virus Training thread for u
It’s close at least. Looks like you had more in the tank too.
Slowing down your descent might help with depth. I find it’s easy to drop fast and hit depth with light weights but if you do that on heavy squats then either you can’t stay tight enough or you catch the stretch reflex higher than normal, like your muscles tighten up more due to the heavy load. I know I need to sort out my squat depth too, so this is a do as I say not as I do situation. For me the issue has to do with the wraps mostly.
Don’t take more caffeine than you are used to, you have to figure out how much you can take and still feel comfortable because too much is worse than too little. Even 100mg more can mess you up.
I definitely learned this the hard way
I hope I did, I guess I’ll have to wait till the end of my next training cycle to retest though
Just be glad that you can still train, most people can’t

What equipment u got brah?
I’ll record a video of my bench training soon. The way I set up bands looks absolutely crazy, not to mention that I’m doing this in a furnace room that nobody ever goes in.
I have a 5 foot barbell (rated to 300lbs, but I don’t know if that’s really reliable) and enough plates to load up 135lbs. I have 2 red bands (15lbs-35lbs), 2 black bands(25-65lbs), 1 purple band(35-85lbs) and 1 green band(50lbs-125lbs). My rack and bench are pretty sketchy, so when I use bands I try not to put addition pressure on them.
I have a pair of fat grips, a hip circle, A pair of 15 and 20lbs dumbbells, and a 60 litre sealable barrel.
I’m thinking of filling the barrel with water and using it like a strongman keg or stone and stuff like that. I don’t know much about that stuff, but it looks fun and hard.
No chance to buy an extra set of 45s?
This is for a 7 foot barbell from Dick’s also rated 300 lbs (had it, sold it because I got a 700 lb rated barbell), and the guy deadlifts 625 on it with only a minor bend in it. Point being, no company selling a barbell is going to rate it holding 300 lbs unless it holds WELL over that. Wouldn’t be under that, that’d be lawsuit central. Guaranteed what you have will hold over 400 without a problem.
