When doing high pulls from blocks is it correct to be shooting for the ‘regular’ style? by that i mean, full extension, not knee bend after the pull. I ask because I always tend to deviate to doing Chinese pulls when going from blocks, it just feels more natural.
So I end up doing all the block work Chinese style, then when I remove the blocks and do them in the ‘rhythmic’ fashion i switch back to the regular style.

do you use the same weight when going from blocks as you would from hang? -i ask because most of us start of lifting less from blocks because you don’t get that ‘pre-loading’ on the hamstrings, thus the weight feels heavier and you are reduced into a chinese pull… nothing wrong with chinese pulls though!

I’ve been doing everything from blocks.
Should I start from the blocks and then move to a hang? I thought the idea was to deload completely and start from scratch for each rep… i.e., from the blocks.
FWIW, my calves and glutes seem to be getting a lot of work from the pulls. Not really feeling it in my hamstrings (yet).
firstly i’m not promoting blocks or the hang, i’m just saying that if you’re used to going from the hang, then switching to blocks CAN lead to a drop off in performance until you get used to it… sometimes its actually the opposite because you can get a better position on the bar, and fatigue is less with higher rep sets.
personally i like doing High Pulls from the hang, just because i feel my shoulders are more engaged throughout the rep. but thats just me.
IMO if you arent feeling it in the hamstrings then you probably aren’t doing it right. I usually feel it in every muscle that it’s supposed to work, if one day i don’t feel it glutes, or hamstrings etc then i know my form was a little off.
everyone is different though, like my delts get blasted in high pulls, but its more my upper back that feels the work in chinese pulls.

I’m sure it’s an issue with form, hence my (yet) on the original post.
I’ve only done three sessions with them so far, but each session I’m learning the movement a little better. I think it will be a few weeks before I can really say I have a decent handle on it. I’m learning though.
And the physique results, I’m genuinely surprised that just a couple workouts could make that much of a difference. Thanks again for the push to give these a chance.
