I was at his place in Valley Stream picking up a compound leg. Maybe around 1999. Once I got passed his stare he helped me break down and load the compound leg in my pickup truck.
He put me through a set on the machine first. Called me an animal from the mountains Pennsylvania. Which I took as a complement. Later he said I was skinny but strong
Please….just don’t anybody dare say that high rep sets for legs are good for cardio…whatever you do…
Speaking of which…the new Beetlejuice film is out soon…
High rep sets for legs are better than cardio at cardio. So, I just said it. And truly believe in it. It’s better to be both strong and conditioned. I’m also pretty sure Drew Baye would agree with me on this.
I’m back on high rep squats, been doing it for 4-weeks now, I do 1-medium day a week and several very light days that range from 50-100reps.
I don’t have a rack so I do Steinborn style via tilt the bar on shoulders.
It had been a while since I did any squatting, week 1 started rough where I did 3-sets of 25reps with 146 (that’s Jonny 1-plate with lock collars).
Week 4, today-
Set 1 161 x25 (speed reps of 13, 12)
Set 2 183 x31 (speed reps of 10, 10, 11)
I will take as much time as I need to breathing between those speed reps with the bar on the back.
I’m getting one of the best lower back workouts doing this, I think this is going to help build my lower back strength for DeadLifts. We’ll see, I’m very excited to keep this going!
I saw this video, it’s an older video but I like to watch it.
This guy records himself doing a box squat just above parallel with 405 x21 reps just to try and prove Joe Kinney can’t do 440x60.
I only like to watch it because I find it interesting that this guy does a pretty easy looking set of 21 with 405 totally raw. I’m thinking, he could have maybe pushed out at least 10+ more reps, so he’s halfway there on his 1st try, does he not realize this?
I’ve personally tried ranges from 6-12 for a period to 15-30 reps. Personally, I’ve noticed that my legs respond better to higher reps. The pump is surreal during the workout and the following day I am way more sore than when I do 6-12 reps.
At the end of the day, experiment with the rep ranges and see what your body likes best.
He was talking about the Duo Squat machine. 50 reps per leg. He also said perhaps. Was he talking about a theory?
The article,Exercise, 1983… the Possible and the Impossible part 1
A.J. talks about a routine he wanted to start on himself. 100 reps on the Duo Squat. It would be 50 each leg.
Later in part 3 of the article he mentions training his wife Terri and Boyer Coe with 40 reps. So that’s probably 20 each leg.
