You know, I haven’t tried non-alcoholic beer since O’Doul’s hit the market back in the 90’s, but I have noticed an expanded section with a lot of the local brewers putting stuff out.
Man, O’Douls sure tasted like shit.

Completely agreed, and put me off to non alcoholic beer for a long time lol, we used to drink odouls while deployed for celebrations since we couldn’t get real booze.
Some of the new stuff is definitely an improvement, I’ll ask the Mrs her favorites if anyone’s interested
I’m not your wife but I do like NA beers. My recs are any of the athletic brewing stuff, NA blue moons, NA dos equis lime and salt, NA Guinness, NA Coronas are mid, and Becketts flying mules (NA Moscow mule)
I’m curious to hear what your wife recommends though. Our local total wine use to have individual NA beers but they got rid of them so finding new ones is hard
but $20 is $20
Second the recommendation for the Athletic Brewing NA beers. I also like the Deschuetes Fresh Squeezed NA version.
Nice! This thread was originally started for some stupid behavior I whanted to get involved with around Valentines Day, but has expanded into something thats just positive for a way bigger group of people. Im proud of you all!
Going out for a night of drunkenness is exactly what some of you perfect judgmental prople need, lol wow!…
@2cats its perfectly ok to let loose here and there and go pop a few, actually it’s healthy mentally to do so. The alcohol itself of course isn’t healthy but being social, meeting new people and creating new experiences is amazing for all of our mental health. If your drinking in excess every signal day or most of the week then duh Yes it’s going to negatively effect your health and gains so just have a few beers or seltzers when you go to your local bar or don’t drink at all, own your decision and have fun with out the booze…
you kinda mislead this topic though by saying high functioning alcoholic though, just cause someone goes out for drinks or gets drunk every Saturday night hardly makes them an alcoholic…I warmed as a bartender for a long time in a big nightclub scene, I’ve had times and periods in my life where I was drinking way to much but I’ve also won overalls, been top 10 at USA’s and now I’m in my 40’s and still look great. I’m just saying don’t waste your life away chasing 6 lbs of muscle a year, you can still have a fun and have a great physique, just be smart!…
I get where you’re coming from. I used to plan my whole day around how to drink without anyone noticing. Meetings, workouts, social stuff, all of it had alcohol hiding in the background. What shifted for me was finally admitting I wasn’t managing, I was masking.
When I went through a program at Legacy Healing Center, it wasn’t just detox; it was the therapy, the community, and honestly the relief of not having to fake it anymore that changed me. High-functioning only lasts so long before it turns into not functioning at all
Maybe try hanging out but skip the drinks — bring something non-alcoholic so you still fit in. Lifting’s a solid focus, just keep that routine strong and distance yourself a bit from the heavy drinking scenes.
I would much rather go to a library than a bar now but I’m 46 years old and have a partner. I appreciate your predicament but I’m sure the bar and the library aren’t your only options. If you have problems drinking in moderation like I do then the only option is to avoid alcohol altogether. I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol for over 4 years and in the last 10 -12 years I’ve only drunk a handful or two of times and I feel much better for it.
For people who can drink and it’s mentally healthy, thats great. The problem with addicts is they are the best at justifying that it’s in the mental healthy zone.
Best call is following the advice of others in this thread and stay sober. Its easier to do something 100% of the time than 99% of the time.
