Imma come out and say it, this was supposed to be a reply to Spocky and her scrabble obsession.
Now, it somehow worked in this instance too, probably due to my much lamented lack of conciseness.
In this very specific instance however, I was actually not trying to be a dick.

I met James “Scotty” Doohan at a car show in 1987 and shook his hand. It was a few years later that I read a piece of Trekkie trivia that said he’d lost the ring finger of his right hand in WWII. It was a few days after reading that that it dawned on me that I’d touched that hand.
