Heomatecrit Help!

Evening all,

So I normally keep raised Heomatecrit in check by giving blood about twice a year. I run it slightly high for my sport anyway.

It was a bit raised back in late Novemeber 23 at last bloods and that was after giving blood.

Went to give blood last week and the nurse volunteer spiked me wrong and they had to take it down and didn’t draw anything. They wouldn’t use the other arm due to policy.

I went back today and it wouldnt flow well and they only got 225ml. I don’t think thats because my bloods so thick- more I was underfed and had had far too much caffeine today (vascular constriction).

I’ve just ordered a TRT blood test kit and will do bloods on Thursday to see how bad the situation is…

Plan in the meantime…

  1. 75mg asprin a day
  2. 25mg cialis a day
  3. back the TRT right off. I won’t pin again until after results.
  4. Plenty of water 24/7

My question I guess is
A) anyone know if theres any private theruptic phlebotomy services you can pay for in the UK?
B) How low a dose do you need to be on and for how long for your body to downregulate red blood cell production and get back to sub 50 hct?
C) Anything else I should do in the meantime?

The normal ranges are for those not on TRT, same with estrogen. You want high hematocrit, which is part of the benefits of TRT.

The human vascular system is more efficient at transporting oxygen with higher than with normal hematocrit.

College of hematology advances in hematology, position statement,

No evidence exists that a high hematocrit is harmful.

Cleveland the Mayo Clinic in 2018, position statement,

TRT is not associated with the deep vein thrombosis or blood clots.

I agree.

Mine certainly is and I can produce more power when its raised.

But how high can it raise before its a clot risk?

How raised before stroke risk?

Mine was 52 back in Novemeber just after giving blood.

I start to feel it- like weird head pressure when its getting higher still. Thats my normal cue to give blood.

If bloods come back at say 52 again then I won’t fuss… if it’s up near 60 I’ll not be comfortable with the potential risk of clots and strokes that are cited elsewhere.

That’s a sign you can’t handle that level of hematocrit.

There is zero evidence of stroke or clots with high hematocrit. It’s the disease process that causes clotting, the high hematocrit is the smoke, not the fire.

My endo recently commented on my 58.5% hematocrit →

I can’t tell you at what level of hematocrit is too high for you, but this is pretty high. I’d recommend at least monthly monitoring of your levels at least for the Hgb/Hct.

There’s been cyclists die in their sleep due to HCT being too high through misuse of EPO.

So thanks for the inputs- i hear your position, but I’m not gonna run mine to a point I personally feel is unsafe.

Do you have any insight into my original questions?

Same for me.

I don’t think there’s a concrete answer for a “right amount” but I try to keep my levels below 50 and donate every three months.

I feel best in general when my numbers are between 45-50, and can’t decipher any performance loss from high fourties’ to low fifties. If anything, I lift harder when I’m not experiencing the weird pressure feeling.

Think that depends on several factors, including hydration levels, activity levels, platelet count, RBC count. Not just a high HCT, which can be highly influenced by fluid levels.
