Help with Metal Genres?

Was referring to anti semitism. Lot’s of metal bands make cracks about religion, especially black metal (with the frontmost bashed religion being christianity). However a select few bands appear to reaaaallly dislike Jews.

Then there’s the bands that support racism, homophobia etc. (National socialist black metal typically), I don’t listen to any NSBM

Judging from some of his YouTube videos, I haven’t gotten the vibe that he’s psychopathic considering he often states his collective pro-European stance and thoughts on animal welfare, and a disdain for current-day degeneracy, but he definitely comes across as a sociopath who is completely incapable of working with . others. It seems he has zero friends, though many look to him as some spiritual leader. He refers to Jews as “a biological enemy” of white people. Hence I no longer listen to Burzum, no matter how good is his music.

I haven’t seen the film. I read the book of the same title, though not the same story. The book was about the history of black metal, primarily focusing on the early Scandinavian scene. Maybe you read it. I want to see the film though I heard it portrays some incidents and people inaccurately.

doesn’t really matter how it portrays the incidents (it gets the relationships and characteristics of various individuals wrong), however it was merely the directors take on the scene, there isn’t much in the way of definite documentation.

For instance

  • Euronamouys at one point in the film mourns the loss of dead… this never happened
  • Euronamouys/dead conflict never shown
  • Film is in English with English speaking characters

However church burnings, killings etc done pretty well, if you’ve read the book and seen films such as “until the light takes us” the film won’t throw you off how the actual events folded up, it’s close enough, and it’s a good film.

I’ve been to parties such as the ones shown in the film, unfortunately the current generation typically won’t listen to my music so every now and then I go to the individual who controls the music and switch to my music briefly when no one is looking then I’m all like yeeeeeeeeet

I don’t drink alcohol though which makes for a strange experience

I need to find a group of kids that’ll bang out to metal, I can’t even get kids to go to concerts with me as they’re like “nooooo, I’ll get stabbed or bashed around in the mosh pit”

  • You won’t get stabbed as long as you aren’t purposely starting with people
  • Damn right you’ll get pushed around in the mosh pit, that’s what it’s all about DAMMIT.

Orphaned Land is not anti-gentile from what I know. It’s one thing to listen to bands of other races or nationalities or different political views, or maybe a band that has a dim view on others. That I’ll take. Wagner was one of the greatest composers of all time, and he was anti-Jewish. So were other artists, including writers.

It’s another thing to listen to songs that have lyrics showing outright hate for one’s own kind. That’s tough to take in, no matter how good the band sounds to the listener.

M8l8th is NSBM. Several
NSBM bands sound great, from the few I’ve sampled from You Tube and around the net. But again, knowing what the bands are about is the barrier to continued listening. @unreal24278

exactly, I don’t care if a band has certain ideologies such as anti religious views, however if they specifically and vehemently voice hate towards a certain group of people (say African Americans, homosexuals, jews etc) I won’t listen as I don’t support hatred unless it’s towards extremist groups who commit crimes against humanity such as terrorist organisations.

I’ll respect someones opinion so long as they don’t wish to bring harm to others (you can think whatever the fuck you want, hell you can dislike Jewish ideology, I’m not a fan of religious ideology myself but I do like the cultural aspect of Judaism. The line crosses however when you wish to harm me because of something as simplistic as my religion.)

The ideology of hatred towards others based on beliefs, sexual orientation and race is woefully outdated and primitive. (and the notion of people committing violence related to terrorism is also rather outdated TYPICALLY as the violence from groups like ISIS is stemming from religion). I understand the notion behind terrorist groups inciting violence as a political statement due to frustration as there is no other perceivable answer with regard to gathering attention towards whatever cause they stand for)

However many groups such as ISIS stand for (what I deem to be) a retarded ideology, bringing laws back to what they were in the coran (or whatever fucked up interpretation they deem to be the coran). They stand for BS supposedly written in a book many thousands of years ago that they believe to be true without any high level of scientific evidence and they’re so engulfed in their beliefs that they’re willing to commit crimes against humanity, violate countless human rights and breach their own beliefs as an excuse for “it’s for a greater purpose”. Various religion based terrorist organisations are vehemently against premarital relations and drug use, yet they fund themselves partially off the sex trade industry (human trafficking) and narcotics smuggling (and manufacture)… absolutely HYPOCRITICAL

As a matter of fact I don’t agree with any terrorist organisations (most people wouldn’t though) the incitement of violence typically isn’t the way to go about getting what you want unless you’re living under like… a facist dictatorship with no way out. Hatred based on primitive aspects as I mentioned above tends to belong in far right wing ideology

NSBM bands, all White nationalists consider Jews to be a race, not simply a religious group.

Anyway… I saw Judas Priest last week. They were amazing.

By the way, my favorite Death albums are (well, were, actually) Spiritual Healing and Individual Thought Patterns. As I got older lyrics started mattering more to me. I always appreciated lyrics but they became more important as time went on.

Suicidal Tendencies’ How Will I Laugh Tomorrow and Lights, Camera, Revolution had great lyrics for listeners who were gloomy and irritable. Hence I played those into the dirt! No more though. :grinning:

this guy does the best covers!

Being jewish is a race is it not? Given that “jewish” can be found in one’s DNA would hint towards the jewish people being a race no?

I love my music, esp for the lyrics/tone of certain songs. It’s one of the reasons I’ve always rejected the typical crap the kids my age tend to listen to.

A decade or two back the rise of Nu Metal made heavy metal a bit more popular (was like a gateway into the heavier stuff), however Nu Metal, Post-Hardcore, Emo, Gothic Metal (type O negative, a pale horse named death etc) also spoke to people who were irritable, outcasts and/or fed up with society (though many genres of metal/punk in general are good for that).

fav metal genres are

  • Thrash (and associated subgeneres like crossover thrash, blackened thrash)
  • Melodic Death metal
  • Metalcore (and some associated core genres such as grindcore, deathcore, mathcore, melodic metalcore)
  • Melodic black metal
  • Classic heavy metal (black sabbath, Judas Priest etc)
  • Groove metal
  • Doom metal

MOST metal genres

Genres I dislike

  • NSBM
  • Not a fan of djent
  • not a huge fan of nu metal (don’t mind nu metalcore though)
  • Not a fan of brutal death metal aside from cattle decapitation (which is a brutal death/grindcore/goregrind mix)

Other genres of metal I’m impartial towards

Well yeah I understand. I remember downloading some russian NSBM compilation 10 years ago and there was a painting of Hitler in the liner notes and I was like “nope” and deleted everything. Though I still have an old cassette of Nokturnal Mortum’s Goat Horn with the svastikas in the logos… But this is one of my fav album ever and I can’t understand shit they are saying

Definitely, though I think it can more accurately be defined as an ethnicity with its members sharing common DNA. Considering that Jews vary so much, I don’t think we are a pure race–meaning we are not fully white, Asian, or black–I think we have a common core DNA but are mixed with other populations. Many people I talk to have no idea I’m Jewish until I tell them, to which I am surprised, and usually respond, seriously, “Huh? You couldn’t tell?”

My favorites for thrash, going back to about ten years old, til a about five years ago, were Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth, Destroyer 666 (though they’re kind of like a black-thrash crossover), Exhorder, Metallica, and Exodus.

Nokturnal Mortum from what I’ve heard, sound good. But like I said, I’d feel strange if I listened regularly. Really any NSBM I ever heard was out of morbid curiosity. Der Sturmer actually has a punky sound that’s similar to old Exploited and Sheer Terror. But to listen to people that despise me, and say it, no thanks!

Anyway, I pretty much stopped regularly listening to harsh-sounding, fringe metal genres and hardcore about two years ago. I still like the sounds, but I don’t think they’re the best forms of music for me at this point.

Yeah I stopped listening for metal for 3 years and got back at it last year. It’s funny how can our tastes and wants vary…

I think As I Lay Dying are the top of the Metal Core genre. Probably the most brutal christian band I have heard of (lead singer went to prison for attempting to hire a hit man to kill his wife). I don’t think they are sticking with the christian label anymore.

Other metal core I like:
Trivium
In Flames
The Devil Wears Prada
Underoath

in flames isn’t metalcore, it was melodic death metal, then it switched to melodic death metal/metalcore, then alternative metal, then like… synth rock/ hard rock and it’s latest album has gone to a groove/melodic death metal vibe (although a few songs were still synth rocky I believe)

To me, this is mellodeath/groove metal (and yea, melodic death metal can have clean lyrics, look at dark tranquility, edge of sanity, soilwork etc)

Edge of Sanity - Black Tears - YouTube (heaven shall burn did a cover of this I consider to be superior)

Lots of people shit on in flames for selling out, however I think they were actually pretty good up until siren charms, that’s when I dropped them from my repertoire, then their new album came out and I’m wondering what they have in store for the future.

ehhh not a huge megadeath fan, I love like Metallica though

Fav thrash style bands are

  • Toxic Holocaust
  • Metallica
  • Municipal Waste
  • Slayer
  • Annihilator
  • Early sepultura
