Help with Macro and Caloric Content

I need some assistance figuring out the caloric and macro nutrient breakdown of some chili that I made lastnight for my weekly P+F meal.

Ingredients:

5 lbs 93/7 ground beef (browned and drained)

32 oz of chili beans (drained)
24 oz beef broth
24 oz diced tomatoes
12 oz tomatoe sauce
various seasonings…

Thanks for any help!

You might use Google and search for “food or macronutrient calculator” or similar. There are hundreds on the web. Someone once posted a link to free USDA (USDA.org?) software that breaks down every single whole food and even most restaurant foods. This is helpful especially if you want to know the micronutrient profiles as well.

As far as your P+C meals, even though you bought “lean” ground beef, it will still have a significant amount of fat in my book. At 6 grams of fat per 3 oz serving, a mere 2 servings would yield you 12 grams of fat, which is a significant amount, IMO. You might want try making a white chili next time using white meat chicken and/or turkey breast to get down to 2-3 grams for 3 oz.

As far as measuring out serving sizes, you might try adding up the macronutrients for the entire batch, then divide by a number until you get total calories you are looking for. Then, split up the batch by that number into separate containers so you know exactly what you are eating. Quart baggies save room in the fridge/freezer!

I used www.fitday.com, where you can get a free account, to get the following numbers. It probably isn’t perfect, but it should give you a pretty good idea. Any further analysis will be $25/meal

Thanks Deanec, I just finished plugging through fitday too! I came up with pretty much the same thing you did so I feel good about it!

I think this will be a pretty decent P+F meal the carbs/serving are a tad high (with my breakdown they are 13 g/ cup) I did not include the fiber in my totals.

Good enough, glad to help!

Dean
