Help with High Blood Pressure

My father went to the doctor a few days ago and he was told his blood pressure is very high. He’s 51 and he doesnt smoke or drink, but he’s not physically active. He’s about 5’10 or 5’11 and weighs like 205 or 210 I believe. He’s not obese, if you just looked at him, you wouldnt say “thats a fat ass guy” but he does have a gut.

I was wondering what he could do besides maybe lose weight to get rid of that high blood pressure. His father had diabetes, but after losing 60 pounds doesnt have it anymore.

Something he can do quickly and easily would be supplementing with fish oil: http://www.oilofpisces.com/hypertension.html

Longterm strategies to lower blood pressure are well documented, but this can be done immediately with little to no risk.

Is he a type A personality?

Some behavior modification and relaxation techniques can help as well. Also helps lower cholesterol.

I hope your dad gets relief, HH.

What is his blood pressure? He must not go to the doctor all that often if he just found out he had high blood pressure. Of the course the best thing is being physically active to help lower it. Something easy as talking a walk in the evening can help get him on the right start. If you are pretty physically fit you should invite him with you on a hike or just anywhere where he is being more active.

I second the fish oil. Encourage him to sleep more, and examine his diet.

yup fish oil, drink tons of water, get a puppy

Exercise (cardio) and weight loss will be the biggest factors by far.
