Hedlesky's How to Get Fat and Strong
inkaddict wrote:
You were CBLing for your last meet, right? How did you eat during the meet, or maybe abetter question would be how WOULD you eat for a full meet, while still backloading? Would you backload like a boss the night before, do the coffee/cream thing in the AM and not start eating until after squats, or what? Meet day isn’t the time to try and be “clean” or anything, I know, so should I abandon CBL all together that day?

Thoughts?
If weight class is not an issue, the backload before the meet should be a Max Effort. If you are worried about weight, I would suggest NOT backloading the night before the meet. I am dealing with this right now as a matter of fact. I have to be under 265 for nationals and am down almost 25lbs from my las meet. When I backload, I gain 5-6lbs easy from backload. My solution to this is I went f-ing banans this weekend on carbs, will do the same next weekend, then will keep carbs at a minimum until I weigh in the following weekend.

Anyway, my last full meet, I backloaded the night before and went SHW. The day of the meet looked exactly like this:

Woke up, coached another guy in the AM session, had about 60g of protein at 10am, weighed in at 12, about 20mins into my warm-up I started drinking a 50/50 mix of gatorade (3 gallons total) and water and some pre-workout caffiene, luecine, various other awesomeness. I drank those all day. Had a couple of protein shakes and felt pretty awesome all day long.

Sorry this is not the most scientific answer but this shit is all trial and error if you don’t actually have Keifer telling you exactly what to do.

Hope tis helps get you in the right direction.

Maybe not the most scientific answer, but I wasn’t asking a scientist, I was asking someone with some fucking experience here, haha. Thanks a lot Mike, your answer helps a lot.

So far, I haven’t woken up heavier on the morning after a backload (sometime lighter in fact), although I haven’t gone absolutely bananas with it. I think, that if I can still be a few pounds under the day before, I’ll be fine to backload the night before and have a solid performance. I’d prefer to do it that way, and carry on throughout the meet with shakes and shit, rather than actual food. Convenience is key, here.

Thanks again man

Saw you mentioned voodoo bands.

I picked some up mainly for elbow issues that my partner and I have. Definitely helps and you get some nice supercompensation blood flow to the area. I notice moderate relief (definitely takes the edge of the pain off). It is hard to put on yourself, though, and definitely not the most comfortable tool to use. I was hoping it wouldn’t be quite as painful and I could try it on some patients but I would definitely need to save it for athletes who have a high pain tolerance.

Thanks man. I am feeling ok. Training and life were both kinda fucked up the last couple weeks. When it comes time to go, I should be alright. I just don’t want to embarass myself because I just found out that I am on the Quest Nutrition team. So, that pretty much means I have to fucking win. haha.

I came here to get the answer to the question I posed in the PLing forum.

Men’s Nats and Raw Nats. Good for you.

Re: Men’s Nats, I know the Colorado boys in your weight class. Gage is formidable. Drew has pulled out.

I hope the stress in your life abates. For me, lifting is sanity.

Sucks to hear about Drew. Gage is strong as hell. I need to hit PR’s on squat and bench just to be in the running. Then I probably will need to pull a new National records to get to the top 3. haha. Jesus.

Things just weren’t going Drew’s way. Gage is a beast. I will tune in to watch the livestream. Listen for me rooting for you.

Best of luck big dog.

I’ll be expecting the gift of flight in the next few days, assuming that you will embarrass Gravity so bad it’ll never show it’s face around these parts again.

But seriously, good luck to you man. Will be awaiting the videos. lol

Stop picking on gravity. It’s already the runt of the litter.
