Good shit in here. and your writing style is quite humorous.[/quote]
I remember the first time I benched 405… it was during Spring testing for football my 2nd senoir year (stayed longer cause I got redshirted). The entire effort probably took about 30 seconds, my ass was 4 feet off the bench, I had 3 meter knee wraps around my elbows, I hit the j-hooks on the rack about 5 times, and somehow it locked out. I think it took me about 2 weeks to recover from that one bench press. I video most of my workouts just to see how shitty my form looks but havent really been uploading too many of them but, here is the 405 so the trolls don’t start to question me:

I’m more concerned about the fact that you’re training in swim trunks.

There is actually a story behind that… I got up to 290lbs for about a week and tore every pair of athletic/cargo/khaki shorts I own. Those shorts double as athletic shorts/swimming trunks but they are very elastic.
So, I’ve got 2 pairs of those, one pair of camo shorts, and a pair of jeans… and that is my entire lower body wordrobe now.
At least no one has talked shit about my Vibrams yet.

I was JUST going to say “Were those Vibrams?” Haha!
That bench was not slow dude, shit was quick and clean.

I thought they were water shoes to go with the swim trunks.
Thursday-6-24-11- ME Cramping and falling down…
Still stiff from PT but wanted to get some blood into my hamstrings:
Band hip int. rotation (not abduction)-Lightx100 each leg
Rev. Band DLs-245 w/greens- 50 conventional/50 sumo
45 Degree Bench Sit-ups-Light Band- 4x30s on/30s off
Went to go pull the 100lb plate off the bar I dl’ed with, when all of a sudden my hamstrings and groin locked up and felt like 2 ballons filled with wet dog shit. After rolling around on the ground asking what I did to deserve this for about 15 minutes, I managed to stand up and limp out of my garage…
This workout was followed by maxing out on sitting down playing video games, icing, and eating cheeseburger subs.

I haven’t posted anything because everytime I start to think about the things Louie told me, I start having vivid wide-awake-nightmares ('day’mares?) about every word that came out of his mouth turning into little monsters that crawl into my skin and start eating all my muscles. This happens becayse talking to him made me realize that I am weak and don’t know shit about anything.
That being said, if you have any specific questions I could definitely answer them. I learned more in 2 days than in 8 years (undergrad and masters) of college.
Ok, so I am shifting gears a little until my hamstring starts to feel good enough for heavy weights again. Before I start getting called a pussy for the next month or so, let me explain. This entire next training cycle is going to be focused towards 2 things:
-
Fixing imbalances by
-
getting as big as possible.
Now, let the swole-a-thon begin:
Monday-6-27-11- DE Lower
LTT Squats-
14inch Cambered Bar Parallel Box Squats- 325lbsx25x2 in 17:26. Switched between wide and narrow stances every set. My quads are sore already
Every exercise below was done for 3 sets of 30s on/30s off for each leg. Also the tempo for each rep was x/2/3 (explosive concentric, 2 count hold, 3 count eccentric).
1 Leg 45 Degree GHR’s
1 Leg Band Int. Rotations-Green
1 Leg Calf Raises
Standing Band Crunches- Green x 4 sets
Fat Bar Deadlifts- 165x5, 255x4x5
Forever stretches.
Shit was pretty intense.

Lol. That’s cool. Its funny how us educated people who haven’t had much practical experience yet don’t know much. I will have my doctorate in physical therapy next year and yet still feel like Eric Cressey knows more about rehab than most of the PTs I work with…haha.
This doesn’t really have anything to do with training, but what was the generally atmosphere like there? Was there a camaraderie there? Was it similar to what Tate’s last article said when dealing with the stress of just training there against those guys? Is Louie a hardass?
I guess I am just interested in the whole dynamic of the place. I actually will get a mini summer break here in a week or two and I plan on driving down to Omaha to visit Big Iron a little bit. I have lifted with Shawn Frankl a few times and he instructed me on their basic training template. It is a lot different than westside type of stuff so I find it interesting. However, I think the intensity is about up there with westside, and from what Shawn says, Rick was the biggest hardass there was.
Oh yea, here is how I will keep track of progress:
Left-
Calve-19in
Thigh-27 3/4in
Bi/Tri-18 1/4in
Right-
Calve-19 1/4in
Thigh-28in
Bi/Tri-18
Some serious differences that need to be corrected.

It’s weird. There was definitely an intensity in the air when you walk in. But no one was really going batshit crazy or smashing their faces on the bars or anything. Personally, I have a pretty parasympathetic dominant/laid back personality even when I train. It seemed to me that a lot of those guys were the same way. I can see how the stress of training there and keeping up with the strongest people on earth could break someone down and send them screaming out the door but I feel like I could hang and get a lot stronger in the process. As far as Louie being a hardass, he was nothing but helpful to me. Answered every question I had and invited me back to train whenever I wanted too. The guy doesn’t know me from a pile of shit on the ground but he basically invited me into his world just because I want to get stronger. He was a very nice guy.
That is very cool. Louie always seemed like a straight forward guy in whatever I have read from him or seen of him. Yet you always got guys telling stories about how evil these guys all are.
It also just seems kind of odd to me that that the two best powerlifting gyms in the country seem very different training wise. Louie is kind of the mad scientist who read everything and studied all the russian text and developed his own personal preference which obviously works. Big Iron’s approach is basically a bodypart split that uses more of simple linear periodization scheme with some overload work with boards and bands.

Nice might have to try that 28 week one sometime, don’t think I’ve ever seen a program use 150% before. I know people have different opinions on this but what do you consider Intermediate and Advanced?
