Was listening to this song. Then saw these comments and lmao-ed.

Didn’t know whether to post this in the things that make you chuckle thread or this one.

Posted it here because I also like X Japan.

This is the song he’s playing:

The first video of that costumed drummer that broke the internet:

The fucking tiny legs relative to the oversized torso stomping the double pedals gets me every time.

I’ll check them out. I’ve heard a few of their songs, but haven’t given them a good listen.

Listen to…

Revolve
Honey Bucket
Queen
Sweet Willy Rollbar
Magic Pig Detective

All grunge bands worshipped The Melvins. Honey Bucket is my favorite

Lamb of God did a really good cover of honey bucket under their alternate name “burn the priest”

Grunge is an entirely different planet for musicianship. It gave us 3 of the greatest singers of the 20th century in Layne, Chris, and Scott Weiland, as well as some killer guitar work from Jerry Cantrell, Kim Thayil, and Pearl Jam.

Man in the Box is probably my favorite song my band covers right now. Main vocalist does the verses and 3 of us split the bridge. I get to be Layne for the chorus and it’s one of the more cathartic vocal belts in existence. We’ve got more from AiC, Soundgarden, and Stone Temple Pilots in the pipeline too.

Agree, with Layne and Chris being my top two (but Layne at #1, I know lots of people rave about Chris, but Layne conveyed so much emotion). Grunge was crazy. Lots of these guys knew each other well before making it big. Sharing shitty apartments and stuff. Just so much talent out of a circle of guys that knew each other.

I can’t imagine this is easy to cover. Or at least well.

Vocal tone wise, Layne everyday. Chris had range on him but Layne just had the power to back it up.

Biggest issue for me covering MitB is that the band always wants to warm up with it. So of course the first vocal lines I have to do are those chorus belts… I should be getting some recordings back from our last practice - drummer has an intern in his recording studio so we recorded to allow him to practice. I felt really good about last week so hoping they sound as good as they felt. It was my first time using in-ear monitors, which was a religious experience.

You should post them. I would like a listen. I can’t sing worth a shit. But would be cool to hear you do it. I have a feeling doing the harmony between Jerry and Layne is probably pretty hard to get right.

Depending who you ask, neither can I. Luckily for me, there’s 3 of us in this band that can do lead vocals and we can all harmonize pretty well. The main singer does Jerry’s parts in the bridge and chorus and then the third guy chimes in on the response of the chorus. Trying to find a song where we can pull 3-part harmonies too, might have to get into Skynyrd or The Outlaws for that.

I’ve been listening to pretty much nothing but skylit drive recently

As much as people bitch, I really like The Writing on the Wall and am pretty pumped for Senjutsu in general. Nothing wrong with a bit of the Kotzen/Smith blues project leaking into Maiden, and it fits Bruce’s voice well.

I think I am in the minority here, but I liked Book of Souls. This new album, based on this song, will hopefully be great.

Writing on the Wall sounds like it’s straight off Dance of Death, but better.

I thought Book of Souls was their 3rd best reunion album by a distance.
