3-4x/wk doesn’t allow me to get my “bro split” in. Do you train full body and/or push-pull/legs?

Do you mind if I write down my routine/template tommorow (on here)? I’d greatly appreciate it if you could point out if there are any glaring errors in my training style.

Reducing my frequency to 3x/wk with cardio/accessory lifts sprinkled in other days would work wonders for me as I’d be less drained for work/my studies!!!

Sure it does: just carry the day over into the next week.

I train with a variety of approaches. Again: training comes in cycles. Periodization. I ideally do an upper/lower approach that has me lift weights 4 times a week.

I can’t do that with a program I haven’t personally run. I don’t have that ability. I can definitely talk to programs I’ve run before, but I have no way of knowing if what you’re doing would be effective absent my own experience of it.

When I first heard them I compared them to mastodons older stuff, but after listening for a while they’re a totally different beast. I gotta say I’m really into the newer more “proggy” stuff they’ve been dropping. Pretty melodic but still crushing. Not to mention the mixes sound absolutely massive.

Gojira was part of my first ever metal concert. A buddy of mine was really into In Flames and they played a small ballroom up on Lake Erie with 36 Crazyfists, All That Remains, and Gojira. I wasn’t super into heavy music yet, it was an eye-opener.

This song rose to popularity right as a) my mother passed and b) I found Pantera and heard Dime’s story, including his onstage murder in Columbus. It’s weird to miss someone you knew and who was a huge part of your life, while at the same time missing someone you never interacted with, because of a song. This is also some absolute heavyweight guitar work - I’ve been about 2 feet from Zakk while he played this live and it was a definite goosebump moment for me.

Ever seen Slayer ? That’s a religious experience.

Mastodon’s big riffs I like way better than their proggy stuff. Cool aside… I got tattooed by a guy that used to tattoo Brent and Bill.

I grew up in the same area as one of the guys from mastodon. They used to frequent a certain guitar shop that I like…

One day they had an old used custom epiphone explorer, mint condition, just all around fucking amazing guitar. Told the shop owner I’d be back the next day with cash to pick it up… Came back the next day and the guitar was gone. Asked the shop owner what the hell he did with it.. turns out one of the guys from mastodon came in an hour before and bought it without even playing it. Motherfucker took my guitar.

The dudes so underrated on the slower stuff. I go back and forward on the Bored to Tears and Stronger than Death type of stuff but I’ll always listen to Rust or In this River if they come on.

Great story btw. Hoping for some crushing riffs on the next record. Iron Tusk and Where Strides the Behemoth style

I think Bill plays it

Do you play any instruments yourself?

I play guitar, though I haven’t been playing much lately

Will always be able to bust out simple/intermediate level songs from sabbath, Aerosmith, Metallica etc tho. There’s that foundation of motor recruitment/muscle memory.

Played guitar… Poorly. I think Im more of a drummer. We could both probably play black metal. Ha

Machine gun 32nd note chromatic blitz FTW \m/

Actually entertaining the idea of a 2 man black metal project with a guy I work with ala’ Darkthrone. We both work in an inner city ghetto and were going to use clips from actual police dispatchers from murders and shootings. Scandinavia has nothing on American ghettos when it comes to nihilism and hopelessness. Thoughts ?

Go for it, sounds like a pretty sweet and expressive project!

Now that I’m musically a bachelor I’m not sure which way I wanna go. I’d love to do southern rock/classic rock solo stuff for bars and wineries because then I call the shots and don’t have to really do anything I don’t want to. But I still love jamming with people and wouldn’t mind having a heavier band to jam with once in awhile and maybe gig or write.

I’ve been toying with a rust belt-themed southern grunge album but never follow through.

I used to pal around with Greg Allman’s son Devon. Hell of a friendly guy.

My heart will always be with classic rock… And metal \m/

But Im all over the map… The Cure, Smiths, Swans, Acid Bath, CCR, Eagles, Stones, Bowie, Morbid Angel…

I’m the same way, my lifting playlist yesterday went Skynyrd, Children of Bodom, Eminem, Boston, CoC in order. Keeps you from burning out on one genre which is good.

I usually listen to a podcast or Van Halen… DLR Halen that is

Or NIN. Rollins. Deftones. Slayer. Jungle Rot. Prong.

I saw CoC with Zeke and Motorhead
