Heavy Duty

As for HD, my experience, and I emphasize “my”, was that it lead to deconditioning. I tried it, but wasn’t a fan of it.

As for High Intenstiy Training, but in different ways than you might think. Before I get into my routine(s), let me define what I mean by HIT: sometimes it includes failure, other times it doesn’t. It does include one set per exercise but, sometiimes, multiple sets per body part: incline/decline bench, bent arm flies, flat bench. Three sets of compound exercises focusing on the chest. I do that with other body parts as well.

I also do mutliple sets per exercise, sometimes using faster cadences and sometimes slower cadences. Sometimes the workouts are heavy weights/low reps, other times they are lighter weights and high reps, still maintaining a high degree of intensity, sometimes to MMF other times not.

Sometimes these workouts will include a resisted Tabata protocol and sometimes an unresisted Tabata.

My point is this: I have seen steady increases over the past few years using various methods. Which is best? The answer is Yes.

We can all sound cool and opionated, looking like we have all the answers. My challenge to us all, myself included, is to first figure out the questions.

WTF???

This rambling sounds a little familiar…

Yeah, the thing that sucks (or maybe it’s great) is that soooo many protocols work. I seem to have tried them all at some point or another. It does seem however that periodic layoffs every 5-6 weeks or deloading every 5-6 weeks always works no matter what we are doing especially as we get older.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha,

Derek,
In Westside training perhaps they are doing the failed attempts because they’re constantly striving to improve the maximal weight, and when that’s the main means of progression they miscalculate quite often. That would make sence because if you miss a weight by a just a little you can know where you are strength-wise with great precision(which I’m guessing they would really like to know). Just trying to figure it out…

Update on my stats now at 181 Love this Heavy Duty life style…workout once or twice a week and free up some precious time …

Give us another update in 6 - 8 months - an honest one. Those of us who have tried HD know what to expect if you are objective.

Hmm I wasn’t aware you were the spokesperson for those of us who have tried HD …

Seriously before you call someone a liar you should clarify what you find so hard to believe. What reason would I have to lie ?

I apologize for your lack of Heavy Duty knowledge might I recomend a book how about High Intensity Training by
Mike Mentzer ??

Regards Pain

No you can’t recommend a book and have somebody spending money on a Star Wars explanation. If your best argument is to let the book do the talking for you then you don’t belong in a debate. It’s a well-known fact that leading strength coaches agree that there’s little-to-none correlation between pain and progress. If you have something to say - spit it out.

I can’t remember his name, but he (or supposedly his friend or brother) got kicked off for posting threats, then he came back with another name talking about being in a poker tournament and wearing a T-Nation shirt.

I don’t think we’ve heard much from him since.

LOL. ya, That’s him.

I missed all those threads so I didn’t get any threats.

I think it was you who gave me those links to his older posts.

One of the memorable ones.

I said what I had to say in my first post …you know the one that started this “debate”…actually I started
this thread to share my experience with people who may not have known about HD even though it’s been around since the 70’s.

If you are into another workout protocol by all means why don’t you share it …
