If this isn’t enough to convince people that federal intrusion into areas not specifically enumerated by our constitution is and always has been a monumentally bad idea, it’s hopeless.
What an an absolutely head pounding demonstration of the apocalyptic clusterf***k that is Washington DC.
How anybody could trust them to do anything of consequence is a truly spellbinding mystery.
I listened to a lot of the debate. I was actually impressed with some of it. Sadly, the brief history of this president will bare out that he will put on a show, and then just do what ever he wants. He isn’t interested in true reform, he just wants to win for himself. Who it screws in the process, he doesn’t care. Every time a republican brought up a good point, he’d dismiss it as “talking points”. Some good stuff was laid out in there, but sadly it was just a show.
If he really is genuine about reform, why don’t they create the bill out of the stuff they agreed on and then go back and work on the rest. He is very soon going to have a completely different congress. If the congress is against you, you cannot do shit.
They should make a bill out of what they all agree on and revisit the rest in a truly bi-partisan way, not knock boots with pelosi in a broom closet and putting out a lousy bill.
The Paul dude, I didn’t get his full name, ate all the current plans for lunch and in a detailed way dismantled them. I was most impressed with him.

EVERYONE is playing political games…and in the end, America loses.
Let’s say the GOP regains a majority; Pelosi and her “gang” are all ousted…and it is Dawn in America again.
Then what? What “incentive” would a DEM minority have to THEN work with a GOP majority to get anything done after the VERY partisan “just say No” previous 4-8 years?
None.
Another question. Health Care cost are simply smothering individuals and small buisness. That’s not a debate. Who and or what is exactly supposed to help reign in those cost? (And if your answer is “The Free Market”…please be more specific).

I agree. I saw part of the debate. No one I saw ever mentioned the constitutional impropriety of what they were discussing.
How bout the constitutionality of SS, medicare, medicade or even the FDA (this one’s debatable I suppose), nevermind healthcare/insurance "reform, whatever the hell that turns out to be from either side of the aisle.
I doubt there is even one politician in DC save for, dare I say it, Ron Paul, who would so much as seriously question the propriety of ever heading down that fork in the road in the first place.
One thing is for sure. The teleprompter-less Barack Obama brought his sophomoric niggling arrogance into full hi-def display for all the world to see.
They got 9 months to ram this through, but if I understand correctly, they can pass the bill with a strait vote, but they cannot fund it that way. In any event, many dems have just involuntarily retired.

Pat didn’t you hear Obama, Baby steps DO NOT WORK. When you have the absolute BEST healthcare system the world has ever known, baby steps are just not going to make it perfect fast enough. He wants it perfect, and he wants it yesterday, the lobbies, ERRRR the people deserve it.
It’s no wonder my excercise and nutrition plan sucks, I have been incrementally removing one bad behavior at a time and adding one good behavior at a time. All this time I thought slow incremental change was a good way to make something good that would last, ALL THIS TIME I COULD HAVE JUST TAKEN THE MAGIC PILL I SAW ON THAT LATE NIGHT INFOMERCIAL! Penis enlargement pills here I come baby!
I found it funny how Obama had to keep reminding everyone that he is the president. Only 3 more years buddy.
If my political knowledge serves me right, the president is the head of the executive branch which enforces laws. He wants to write law. That is the purpose of the Legislative Branch. “Obama, you are no longer a senator, so stop trying to write law, and start acting like the President.”
I found it amusing how he tried to frame the dialogue: anything I don’t agree with is a “talking point” or is somehow outside the bounds of this discussion.

Vegita, what you need is a 2000-page training/diet plan. Anything short of that would be bad.
All your problems will be solved. It will even tell you what times of day you are allowed to use the bathroom, how many sheets of toilet paper will be allowed, and how many wipes you shall wipe. As well as of course specifying when and what you will eat all 365 days of the year.

Is it just me or was that summit a complete waste of time and resources? Did they ever reconvene after their recess?
I missed the end where obama apparently told everybody that it was a wonderful day, the republicans better be on board or they are going to ram it through with out them and what we have proposed is what we are going to get whether we like it or not.
So yes, this was a waste of fucking time.
Now, if he is so intent on ramming this through with out republican influence and support, why haven’t been able to do that?
Because any policy change has always required 60 votes in the Senate to stop debate.
Budget changes can be done without that (“reconciliation.”)
So having been thwarted by the American people being largely against his health care plans and thus failing to have the 60 votes in the Senate, now he wants to ram it through with reconciliation even though it is of course not just a budget change.

The only thing that will lower aggregate health care costs is less health care.
This is the thing no one wants to say.
The real cost drivers are the people who we can now keep alive through expensive care/precedures and costly drugs that simply would have died in times past.

Even that whining lowlife Robert Byrd, who was the original author of the reconciliation procedure has publicly declared that using it in this instance is not what was intended and is inappropriate.
Btw, I’m raiding this fucking website. And telling all my friends to do the same.
Edit - here’s my “healthcare” story:
“Grandma is dead on the floor right now and I don’t have any false teeth so I’m wearing hers now. Do you think that’s okay? I hope so. The baby’s having trouble eating the wood chips I cooked up for breakfast, so I’ll prolly have to let her borrow my teeth. I hope Obama fixes this world and fast.”
