Just wondering what everyone’s predictions were for David Haye vs Nikolai Valuev? I’m a pretty casual boxing fan and none of my mates seem to agree with me that Valuev will win by knockout. Everyone seems to think that Haye will win on points. Opinions?
It’s hard to say, Haye hasn’t done anything at heavyweight but run his mouth. Valuev hasn’t done much either, he’s just big. I’d go with Haye on points.
Valuev by late TKO, otherwise points. I think his size will be too much for Haye.
Haye by late TKO. Too fast for the Sasquatch.
Valuev by decapitation.
I hope Haye can do it because it would be a great result for British boxing - and athletic achievement. Haye’s lean bulk up from cruiserweight is very impressive.
Regarding the fight, what are the odds of a German-based boxer losing on points in Germany? Answer: as slim as Valuev not turning up because he’s too afraid! Quite simply, Haye will either have to put him down several times to get some 10-8 rounds in the bank (or obviously stop him altogther) or put on a boxing masterclass and win at least 10 rounds to ensure the judges give him the verdict.
Valuev’s record suggests he won’t be put down and I can’t see Haye changing that. So everything points to a Valuev win. I hope I’m wrong but that’s my opinion.

No outpointing, my ass!
To be honest, I also didn’t believe till the end he’d win, cause often he would resort to outright running -which is a kinda , er, unusual a heavy weight title fight.
Valuev’s ice-age-genes were apparent here, the neanderthal dude sometimes moved like a glacier.
Still, I like the outcome very much- hope we see Haye fightin soon again.
It was a good fight; Haye surprised me by going all the way- he made Valuev look shockingly slow.
Weird fight. The German commentator didn’t stop going on about how impressed he was with Haye. After the fight, I thought he had done enough, but I had no idea how the judges would see it. It seemed like Haye was running too much, doing little more than avoiding getting hit for extended periods of time. Turned out to be the right plan and he executed it to perfection, though. As far as I know, Haye injured his hand in round two so that could have influenced his performance as well.
I scored it 117-114 Haye, while my fried had it 114-144 draw. Still I was surprised two of the judges gave it to Haye by 4 rounds. Obviously the hand injury hampered Haye but we saw a glimpse of what he could do when he staggered Valuev in the last round.
Expert contest and Haye proved athletic endeavour can win over natural brute force. Very pround right now to have another British heavyweight champion.
