I can’t tell what is going on in their heads from this though. I can’t presume to know how religion actually guides them.
Along with this, outside of cannibalism, me satiating my hunger does not view a fellow human as merely a tool to fulfill my needs.

Its only voluntary if you consider death to be an adequate outcome. People need to consume a bare minimum number of calories in order to stay alive.
Depends on context. In the USA it’s not very accurate to say it’s involuntary for the most part

You can have excessive amounts of sex too. The point is the barest minimum amount of one is essential for survival while the other isn’t.
On the individual scale, obviously. We need some humans having sex to keep the species going. I think that argument has some flaws in it within this context though.

I’m totally fried today so excuse me if I’m lost but are some people saying that sex, like eating are both voluntary?
Sex is programmed into every one of us. Reproduction is survival, so reproduction is the core principle of every organism.
Or am I wrong there? I’m pretty sure that is what I learned in school.

I was going to say this. Sex is not merely a tool for satisfying needs. It’s for procreation, which benefits society at large providing decent people come out of it.

Indeed. However the discussion initially was on the individual scale. An individual can survive fine without sex, they can’t survive without food. LiveAid would have been a very different story if we were sending hookers to Africa.

And I would be careful about going down this “survival of the species” route. Deeper down the rabbit hole, you will probably find justification for collectivization of sex.
