WHAT A BITCH!!! WHAT A STUPID ASS!! Ok, so we did the 8-12 rep max test tonight in class, oh and this is a class for the ACE certification by the way, and I benched on monday. So, my chest is already still a little in the shitter, but I said fuck it, why not show some people up in my class(Yea I can be a cocky competitive asshole, but who cares).
So anyways, I put 135 on the bench and start to warm up, figuring I’ll only have to goto 225 and rep that for an easy 12 to shut up the person bragging about repping 205. Now, my actual 1 REP MAX, that I did about 2 weeks ago, is 330. So, I start warming up, going at a fast pace, like 2/1 at 135 and the moron comes over and tells me my form is horrible, my feet must be on the bench, and my wrists aren’t aloud to cock back at all, I’m going WAY TOO FAST, need to go 4-6/1 and says this is the ACE way and you must follow it if you’re going to be an ACE certified trainer.
I was like WHAT?? This coming from an idiot with a HORRIBLE body, married to a man with a HORRIBLE body. So she then goes on to say that I need to start working with just the bar, take all weight off, and work on proper form. I’ve BEEN BENCHING SINCE THE 8th GRADE!! I KNOW WHAT’S COMFORTABLE FOR ME!!! DAMN I JUST WANNA SMACK THE BITCH!!!
While I understand why you are angry I don’t understand “wanting to smack a bitch”. Get some anger management. I am not trying to be a jerk btw… I am being serious, these are not exactly healthy things to be thinking.
Hell, sometimes the idiocy of people can be overwhelming. But, only if oyu are saying that you want to hit her as means of symbolizing your anger, than its ok. But you need to realize this also: most personal trainers are dumbasses.
There are quite a few good ones, but most of them do not know much about lifting besides bench, curl, and arm training. So, forget what she said and do what you want. But if you need to do that form to pass, that do it with lighter weight, but otherwise, disregard what they say.

Along with that, someone like that wouldn’t be impressed by how much you lift. Even if they are they will act like they aren’t. Anyone in better shape or anyone stronger just makes them look bad. They will simply hate you for it.
Personally I think it totally unprofessional to say someone is doing something wrong or that they have bad form. A good trainer should simply suggest corrections while you’re doing your exercises, ie try to straighten your back a little more, try to press those shoulder blades together.
At least thats the way my trainer works me. Same with nutrient, she comments about certain foods and what they do for you, she’s also a nutrition expert.
The difference between a pro and an ego. I think the worst are the book worms with very little real experience. With the attitude that academic is more valuable than experience. Hopefully they will not last.

As much truth as your statement has, it is still VERY hard to not get mad when someone calls you out like she did, especially in a crowded room with other people around. She made it seem like I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what I was doing. If a power lifter that benches 800 pounds were to bench in front of her, she’d probably have a heart attack because of his form.

mmm, i disagree. I think it’s used as hyperbole a lto these days. Whne I say i want to kill someone, I wouldnt ACTUALLY kill them, even if I could get away with it. (well, nto most of the time, so I’d like to think)

Yes, and now I hate her. So I guess me and her are on the same mental basis.

Lol, that’s essentially what I meant. Like when a friend says something stupid and you just want to smack the shit outta him.

the fact that this had to be explained is astounding

I’ve always had bad wrists, and they don"t cock that much…I don’t see the advantage it gives you?? When I’m 205 benching 330, I think my wrists would cock a little. And plus, when I lift heavy I use Wrist Wraps to keep my wrists straight.
Quote taken from a benching website…don’t know how valid it is but it still disproves what you said Carl.
“Keep your wrists straight. Don’t cock them back or allow them to twist during the exercise. This causes undue stress on the wrist and reduces power in your shoulders, chest and arms.”
REDUCES power, therefore actually making the exercise harder. Now I know why benching is alot easier with wrist wraps…

“Comfortable for you” doesn’t equal correct form. IMO you should have tried it the trainer’s way, seen how that worked, and THEN decided what’s better. Or do you just know Everything, while everyone else knows shit?

While you are correct that comfortable doesn’t necessarily mean right, he’s pretty much correct here. ACE certified “trainers” are just a bit higher than troglodytes on the evolutionary scale, and way below intelligent lifters. Having your feet on the bench is a HUGE mistake for power generation. Just huge. We just had an article on here not too long ago that explained a number of mistakes, and that topped the list. Besides, 330 @205 is pretty respectable. It means you’ve had to work at getting it unless you’re a genetic freak. Except for the cocked wrists (which are probably an inadvertent mistake), I’d warmup the same way. It’s only 135 for crying out loud. And I’d have a huge arch in my back doing it.

Um, I did try it her way, and it was retarded. I don’t know everything, but I do know the way she had me doing it was retarded, and the way she came at me was EXTREMELY disrespectful.
