Hate Crimes

Say a person reports that their property has been vandalized with grafitti, much of which is racist in nature. Perhaps, the resident even says he saw a couple “yoots” of another race hanging around late last night. Upon investigation, the police realize the crime is actually a hoax. Self-inflicted. Since it’s a crime to make a false report like this, and in doing so may have heightened racial tensions, not to mention the targeting of another race with false accusations, is this hate crime hoax, a hate crime? If not, for what possible reason?

This happened in my town. Someone wrote racial grafiti on a house threatening the black occupant. The guy moved because of this. Later, it was discovered he wrote the grafiti himself cause he wanted out of his lease.

It kind of sucked because it made the white people of the neighborhood where he lived look like racists.
Yep.

My worst experience was when I was working to clean up gang graffiti. I was then threatened and called a racist (along with others who were cleaning it and were also minorities), because I was painting a tan/beige color over the gang writing. I sat there and thought, “ain’t that a bitch.” A gangmember called me a racist as I and some men from Mexico and China, tried to clean up the community.

The main point of hate-crime legislature was to make hate-crimes a federal offense. That keeps Billy-Bob’s lynch mob from getting let off easy by the sheriff who was wearing the white cape with them.

They have their place, but like all things, can be abused

no they don’t, suppose I get into fight with a black man and in the heat of the moment, I call him a n----r, they would consider that a hate crime, but if I don’t its plain assault. see how thin then the line between a crime and hate crime can be
What? It’s not a thin line by any means, its in fact a large blurry line. And yes that is the point of hate crimes laws, but like any other law out there, it gets abused.

lol and now im supposed to feel sympathy for someone who gets in fights (and is dumb enough to get arrested for it) and calls people niggers? Please.

Another example. Could the Duke players potentially turn around seek some kind of hate crime charge against their accuser?
Interesting point.

But to me at least, she accused them of being racist and racially motivated, racism isn’t dependent on the person’s own race but the person who they are “attacking.”

So she didnt accuse them of being racist because they were white but because she was black, so it wasnt racially motivated against white people.

From my experience in court rooms at least, that’s how i would see it being played out. Not that im defending her by any means.

Cases like this are we need to bring back stocks and let people throw rotten tomatoes at liars.

But, doesn’t her accusation depend on her targeting white males to accuse?
