I got a day pass to the gym today cause of the heat. Turns out they’re shutting down next week. They got tires, prowlers, bumper plates, a whole bunch of power racks, and their description on yelp freakin TELLS you to bring chalk. WTF is wrong with people.
Friday afternoon:
It was hot in the gym anyway. Oh well…
DL - up to a fail at 350, then 2 or 3 very short rest singles at 325, then 6 or 7 very short rest doubles at 295. I didn’t keep the bar sucked in against my shins with my lats on the 350 attempt.
DB rows (strapless) 4 sets of 8ish with 90. Got a little lat pump, but this was mostly challenging for my grip
thanks bird, shoulder strength used to be a huge weak point for me!
Saturday afternoon:
Yay the heats gone!
Bench - mostly singles
Close grip - lots of heavy 5’s, 2’s, singles
This was pretty terrible, I just barely failed a CG bench of 215 (after a bunch of volume but I still should have gotten it)
My CG is definitely stronger than my regular grip. (maybe cause I get more momentum out of the bottom with the increased ROM?) So I now feel free to do nothing but close grip.
Since my squat just goes up pretty much without me trying, I’m just gonna let it drive my DL. Deadlift is back to once a week and squat three times a week. For reps on DL days, heavy the other two days.
So 405 DL is still my goal, but squatting is my focus now (the way it should be!)
Doing this makes good mornings higher priority than front squats though.
DL - Two 1 minute rest singles at 325. (which is 96% of last weeks 1RM) Not as smooth as I thought they’d be.
Squat - 255 x 8, 275 x 6, 295 x 4. Deep and hard. (the higher reps were a mistake, they made me slow. I’ll just stick to 4’s next time)
Good mornings - 225 (-10) was a bit too much, so I did a bunch of sets at 205. My erectors were quite engorged.
Front squat - low reps, though not much volume this time around. No PR either, they were folding my abs over.
