Hardcore Essentials2

Sorry for your loss GV.

I wouldn’t worry about butt coming off the bench. Every meet I get overly cautious about making sure my butt stays down and my feet stay flat. Never been red lighted for either and I’m sure it has cost me some weight. Go for it and if your ass comes up at least you miss by being over aggressive instead of to conservative.

Thanks Dave. My biggest goal is to have a safe(injury free) meet and excellent performance which may not include pushing any new PR but technical accuracy. Injuries over the past year to both hamstrings gives me pause and makes me think time over the next year or so will have me breaking records. In the next year I will be competition benching over 300 lbs again which will be a great triumph after 3 years coming back from my right biceps tear. What a journey and it continues.

Great lifting GV. Sorry about your grandfather. I’ve seen two guys tear their biceps and it wasn’t pretty.

Thanks NHLFTR. I’ve been stuck around where I am for top numbers with my bench for a while but I think with weighted dips and hard training after the meet a week from Saturday I will make big progress. My right biceps has healed nicely but getting my bench stronger is a long, tedious task. Restoring the strength to the muscles most affected for bench due to the biceps tear is not easy but an ongoing project.

On another note, work has been so exhausting on Tuesday and Wednesday that I had no energy to lift until today but I think taking the days off helped me recover to lift strong these last training days prior the meet.

Tonight I had trouble getting going however once my energy kicked in it was a good evening for lifting.

DE Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 3
205 x 8 sets x 3 reps(1 min btwn sets)

SlingShot Bench:
225 x 5
275 x 1
320 x 1(This felt unusually good)

Triceps Push Downs:
90 lbs x 5 sets x 12 reps

Kroc Rows:
61 lbs x 2 sets x 20 reps(each hand)

Svend Presses:
40 lbs(4 plates) x 3 x 20

Standing Crunches:
90 lbs x 15

I’m looking forward to an entire weekend off from lifting. Monday, I may try a new PR for a pause bench or just do my opener for the meet. I haven’t decided yet what I will do and I need to see how I feel Monday. Tomorrow will be an easy squat day.

It looks like you’re close to having everything zeroed in.

It looks like you’re close to having everything zeroed in.

The heat and humidity are building up. Lifting this evening at around 92 degrees. I thought my strength was good even though this was a tough work week and the sun was a hot iron on my neck however when I went heavy not all of my growl was there. Lifted okay and thinking, depending on work next week and how I feel I will be very conservative in my attempts at the powerlifting meet on the 14th.

T-Handle Swings:(btwn 1st two squat sets)
110 lbs x 2 x 10

Squats:(Knee sleeves)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
525 x 1(only parallel-not a passable comp squat I think)
501 x 1(belt-finally a comp squat depth)
405 x 3
315 x 3

This 501 lbs felt pretty good so it will probably be my opener.

Nice work!

Be sure to lock your knees after you walk the bar out. USAPL judges can be strict about that and withhold the start command.

Rooting for you. I hope you get video to share.

Go get it. 92 degrees? Yes, I do feel like a jackass complaining about my gym being 76.

Thanks for the advice kpsnap, I’ll keep that in mind.
Crippler, thanks. Today I feel like a vampire. The blazing sun is repellant to me and my daughter can’t wait for me to take her swimming. It’s only 93 degrees but it might as well be 110 degrees to me today.

So, today the heat factor was 97 degrees and I lost 6 lbs while working. The sun really cooked my bones today but even though I had some muscle cramping today and sometimes felt like melting I made every effort to get my last big bench in. Lucky for me a thunderstorm move in and the temperature dropped to 84 degrees for lifting tonight although the humidity felt like walking into a bowl of warm soup when I went into the garage.

Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1(comp. pause)
265 lbs x 1(comp pause-opener for meet)

Standing Crunches:
90 lbs x 3(Started doing these but my bicep started to have a muscle spasm so I called it quits)

Pleased with my bench tonight especially considering my state of fatigue. Now my challenge is managing work to keep it to a minimum for the rest of the week so I am somewhat rested for the meet. I’m going to squat tomorrow evening and hopefully work will not be as exhausting.

Good work especially considering the heat and fatigue.

Tonight the lifting was short but satisfying

Squats:(knee sleeves)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1(belt)
505 x 1(belt-comp depth)

I was very happy to have a nice 75 degrees to train in due to a huge thunderstorm cooling the day off. I may do some very light lifting on Thursday and then it’s off for a fun meet on Saturday.

Looking forward to your meet results. 501 looked easy.

What is the date for the contest?

Thanks NHLFTR. Crippler the meet is Saturday, June 14th at the Orlando International Airport, Hyatt. This will be my first USAPL meet and I am a small bit nervous about rules and making sure to do everything correctly but mostly I am confident about the lifting numbers I have in mind. My goal is to achieve high marks for technically accurate lifts and to perform within my abilities. The next meet will be for reaching to higher numbers and maybe setting a record. Crawl before walking and then I am going to sprint.

Well it looks like you are right on track. Good luck.

Good luck Saturday

Thank you Crippler and G1.
