Hardcore Essentials2

OG thanks for the insights. Tonight the lifting had a new challenge. My garage door will not open so I have to lift in the hot box until I get it fixed. Despite the sauna like conditions lifting was fast and easy.

225 x 5
315 x 1
405 x 1

Did this all in 30 minutes because of busy schedule: I was obligated to take my children for a swim and then cook them dinner before getting my kindergartener ready for bed and reading, so it’s been kind of hectic. Decided to go back to single pause work on my bench because I am preparing for a contest a couple months away. I would love to get my bench in to the mid 300s for my next meet.

If you try early morning workouts, do them for least a week or two before deciding whether to change. I was hooked on them after about 2 weeks. Family benefits too.

I’m just as tired at 5 pm whether or not I lift that day. Odd.

That’s a lot of work for 30 minutes in a hot box. I’m too pampered. Just today another guy and I were complaining about the AC in the gym.

balancing family time, work, and lifting is never easy. You’re doing a helluva job thus far.

Good advice Biker. Crippler, I’m just looking at it as a minor inconvenience with possible training benefits of making me a little more conditioned. Thanks hawkcapt, so many things in life worth our efforts are not easy but very rewarding.

So, lifting tonight had it’s ups and downs.

Deadlifts:

I was burned out tonight on the BP and Deads. Thought there was more in the tank but I guess it was just one of those nights/days. On a plus note the squat was strong and comp good and I my kindergartener let my show her how to hit the punching bag and she helped me load lighter weights as well as doing some kettle bell swings. By increasing my calories and resting a little more lately I’ve put on about 5 pounds since the height of heat this summer and I’m looking to put on at least another 5-12 pounds before my next meet( = strength increases too).

When is your meet again?

And what are your platform PRs again? Your squat is so strong.

You haven’t lost anything off of the squat. Nice work.

My goal is to compete in on November 7 in Tampa at the Tony Conyers Raw United meet. My best platform PR on the squat was 625 lbs, best bench was 385, and best deadlift 615 lbs but all of those were several years ago. Thanks Snap I’m working to get my squat much stronger. Thanks Dave.

Tonight the lifting went well. I have been the residence of a rhino virus(cold) since Monday curtesy of my 2 year old. Luck us a cold front moved in and the temps here have dipped to the chilly mid 80’s so working has been a little less stressful. The lower temps have also made lifting in my closed garage a bit more tolerable being that the sweat box effect is less sauna-like.

I felt pretty strong coming right off a cold and several days break. Getting back in to a regular lifting schedule is no easy task for me presently but I’m working on it.

There’s outstanding strength on this log. My 12 month goal is to match your squat totals from a mediocre workout, IF you ever post one. Ha!

Strong session GV, Even more impressive given that you are fighting off the virus.

Biker thanks but your own best is all that counts. Thanks Dave the darn cold decided to come back for a second round following that last lifting which has slowed my roll a bit the past few days. Decided to lift even though I can’t quite breathe right and thinks went well.

Squats:(raw)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 1
405 x 1
480 x 1(decided my back and legs needed a lighter night so I called it quits for squats to come back in a couple days and lift bigger)

225 x 1(pause)
265 x 1(pause)

225 x 3

Deadlifts:(Changed my mind and decided my back and legs had more in them)
225 x 3
315 x 1
405 x 1
500 lbs x 1(was smooth, fast, and easy-know I had quite a bit more in me but will save for another day)

Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 20

Despite the lung cookies and blowing my nose every few minutes the lifting was strong. I have almost 7 weeks until the meet I want to lift in so hopefully that’s plenty of training time to really improve my top numbers quite a bit. I’d like to have an elite total this November.

First day and night in a week I haven’t had the cold and lifting went well.

Made a video of the 550 lbs squat but for some reason am unable to get from U-boob. If I work it out I’ll post said vid. Lifting was strong and hoping bigger numbers will keep coming.

Here’s the 550 lbs squat tonight:

Dang dude,that is great stuff…

Great squat, GV! I love the setup ritual!

Great job! Do you always have such a fast walkout with so much weight?

Thanks OG and LittleStrick. Snap, thanks I usually do walk out fast with heavy weight and take my time getting my feet set if necessary.
