Hard Work

Thanks, Matty. But I should point out you’re not supposed to pull the rack up . . . of course, with your strength I can see where it could be confusing . . .

James, it’s wonderful. For the first time in my life, I’m starting to get compliments for athletic prowess.

Elaikases, thanks. My god, Jeff Dee is STILL at it???

Finally had a chance to read my sister’s book, her first published work of fiction. It’s actually really good (and I’m her worst critic). It’s a murder mystery set at a Beatlemaniac convention. Fascinating main character. If anyone’s interested, I’ll PM the Amazon page.

Squats
115 x 5
135 x 5
155 x 4
185 x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4

Incline Bench
65 x 8
95 x 6
115 x 5
125 x 3 . x 3 . x 3 . x 3
115 x 5 . x 5

CG Bench
75 x 9
95 x 6
115 x 6
135 x 4 . x 2 . x 4

form wasn’t the greatest on the 135, but it was enough for another guy to ask me if I was getting stronger. He thought my weights had been going up. Hmmm, that’s the second time in a week someone asked.

Like James said, it’s nice that people notice that you work hard…

Good Work Cav! You can see the weights going up just look back thru your log.

solid performance Cav and you are definitely getting stronger…the numbers don’t lie!!!

Just reading back through your thread cav and it does seem that you are getting stronger.

Not only that but more confident as well.

The hard work is paying off.

Well done mate…

Yep, its easy to see your strength has one up a lot.

WHOA - yeah someone is kicking ass in here, and people are taking notice!!

If that doesnt keep you motivated nothing will.

Buffalo, it’s a far cry from my childhood days when the other boys said things like “Sure you can play, as long as you’re on the other side”.

Colin, thanks so much for paying attention.

Goat, thanks!

Nurse, it does make me happy, although hard to tell about the confidence, the unemployment takes it toll on that. BTW, every time someone calls me mate, I think of the bit from the show My Hero:

“I wonder if you could help me, mate.”
“Help you mate? Well, I don’t usually do that, but . . .”

Joe, thanks a lot.

UpScale, just keep posting your avatar here, that’s motivation enough!

Sorry…very ‘brit’ expression !! ‘bro’ just doesn’t sound right coming from this side of the pond…but you get the general idea.

Don’t apologize, it’s charming. And the TV show - er, telly - is very, very funny. (It’s on youtube, BTW)

Your squats have come up so much!

Nice work here Cav,… don’t what else to say. Keep it up.

Man. Seven solid sets.

Not to mention the rest of that work out.

Yep, Dee is still at it. e.g. JeffDee User Profile | DeviantArt

But, lets be honest, you are a lot stronger than he is

It is great to see where you are now vs. where you were when you got dispirited.

Snapper, thanks. I just can’t believe they’re coming up faster than yours, you’ve put so much work into them.

Dude, thanks.

Elaikases, that’s the least of it. The Sheiko is even more, without a specific written program guiding me, I seem to cutting back on sets. Not surprising, but I do want to watch that.

God, I should hope I’m stronger than someone who spends all day with his butt in a chair. Then again, I spend a lot of time in a chair . . . and Dee at least has a lot of gorgeous art to show for it.

I think the dispirited started when the other guys out-walked me on a Boy Scouts hike in middle school. Or when I couldn’t throw the ball into the basket no matter how much I strained. Or . . . you get the idea. By 7th grade PE was nearly suicidal.

      • MEATHEAD CHALLENGE * * *

Was my day for DL, so decided to make that the workout. A little warmup . . .

135 x 3
205 x 3
255 x 3

Meant to load up 210, but somehow did 215. That’s not normal to get math wrong. Anyway, huffed & puffed, then gritted teeth and:

215 x 11
215 x 7
215 x 6
215 x 7

31 total.

was hacking, retching, hyperventilating. Tried to keep time between sets to minimum. By last set heart was palpitating wildly, calmed down after finished. Everyone in gym was staring at me afterwards. Fuck them, I don’t see them working themselves into intensive care.

Video on meathead challenge log.

Lots of rest, then bench:
95 x 6
115 x 5
135 x 3 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4 . x 4

Very, VERY stressed by DL, so got PO’d on bench and really tried to fry upper body.

Went home, cleaned up, applied for 3 more jobs online, did the video. So stressed lost my appetite and had small dinner, will pay for that one.

Watched your challenge vid…great effort Cav…

Geez, Goat, don’t admire me, you’re just giving me incentive to do this neurotic shit again. Were your squats this punishing? My condolences.

Got a good night’s sleep, feeling human this morning. Screaming DOMS in lo back, lats, up back, traps. Hah! Maybe that’ll kick start some growth in this puny body.

Cav, you need to stop using such negative language. It in no way helps you.

Still feeling some soreness from the mega deads 2 days ago. Trivia question: what exercises can you do do when your upper back is aching? Answer: not very damn many. DL, of course, is out, and so is any rowing exercise. Can’t squat or GM, bar cuts into on aching area. Can’t bench, since you tighten back for support.

So I decided to make it an arm and shoulder day:

Parallel grip chins, hold at top
11 x 2

Standing pulley extension (for tris)
50 x 15
80 x 10
90 x 6 . x 6 . x 9
100 x 7
110 x 3 , x 3

odd, the more sets I do, the better I seem to get.

Bar Curl
45 x 15
55 x 12
75 x 5 . x 5 . x 6 . x 6 . x 6

Overhead Press
45 x 10
65 x 10
75 x 7 . x 7 . x 9 . x 8

suppose I can console myself that I had pre-exhausted arms, even so, shoulders got a burn from this.

Feeling a little better today, maybe the mega deads challenge last week did me a little good. If so, I’ll just have to kill myself with hi rep deads to get any gains at all.

Bench
95 x 7
115 x 6
135 x 5
155 x 2 . x 2 . x 2
145 x 3 . x 3 . x 3 . x 3

doing these in powerlifting form, really arching back, pulling bar apart, locking back muscles, digging in with legs.

Squat
115 x 6
135 x 5
155 x 4
195 x 3 . x 3 . x 3 . x 3 . x 3

Matty Row
65 x 10
75 x 8
85 x 8
95 x 5 . x 5 . x 5 . x 5

GM
95 x 5
115 x 5
155 x 5 . x 5

really trying to work posterior. I REALLY need to do more GHR, but somehow never seem to remember it.
