Determination my brother.
Still nothing on the job front. I apply, resumes, phone calls, and NO response.

Cable files
30 x 10
50 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10 . x 10
ok, what’s with this 50 shit, didn’t expect that. If only my bench could go up like that
Cav- but isn’t the 140 more weight than the previous bench workout? seems to me like there is progress happening…all I know is if I benched and followed it with deads and than went back to bench they would be calling 911…
Goat, they probably should have called 911, but these guys are so self absorbed with their 250# incline benches and 120# DB presses.
The program is calculated off an initial 1 RM value. A few weeks ago did 165 for bench somehow, been using it for the max ceiling. The 140 is the 85% value, and you’ll notice only for 2 reps. Bench seems to be getting a bit easier, but that may be due to my form getting better. Impossible to tell if strength is changing. Will try max effort next week to see if Sheiko has accomplished anything.
I appreciate your cheering me up, but seriously, for all the years I’ve put into this, a 140 bench isn’t exactly Dave Tate levels.
None of us are at Dave Tate levels. The only person you can compare yourself to is the you of last week, or last year, or 10 years ago.
That’s why training logs are so great because we sometimes lose the forest for the trees but if you look back you’ll see that you really have made gains.

LAST DAY OF SHEIKO CYCLE
What the $*@%? I just put on 3 pounds of bodyweight and my muscles feel really, really swole. This could be a fun workout . . .
Squats
95 x 5
115 x 4
135 x 3 . x 3
The program says 145 next, but the hell with that:
155 x 3 . x 3 . x 3 . x 3 . x 3
Bench
85 x 6
100 x 5
115 x4 . x 4
135 x 3 . x 3 . goddamn these are flying up!!
145 x 2
150 x 2 . and I didn’t even need a spotter!
140 x 3 . x 3
120 x 4
110 x 6
105 x 12 . was supposed to be 85 x 8, but that’s for pussies
Cable flies
30 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
50 x 10 . x 10
Dips . been ages since I’ve done these, and never been good at them, will do what I can:
x 6 . x 6 . x 6 . x 6
Now off for food and woman, not necessarily in that order.
What is this…swole…of which we speak goodfellow ??.
Food and woman…you animal !!!
I swear, if it weren’t for Monty Python and Seinfeld, we’d never understand anything across the pond. “Swole” . . . as in swollen, as in pumped muscles. As in “Damn, I don’t look half bad in the mirror”.

Sir…you jest !!.
I have enquired of my gentlemans outfitter whether he could aquire such items of clothing as these ‘bored shorts’ and this ‘do rag’.
William the taylor claims to have no prior knowledge of said items, although it must be admitted that there was a hint of what could only be dsecribed as a ‘smirk’ on the good mans face as he said so.
I fear that i am being nade fun of !!!.

Language is funny, sometimes funny ‘haha’ and sometimes funny ‘peculiar’.
I don’t actually speak like a character out of a bad british period drama, my language background is a very neutral grammar school english slightly modified by way of a northern english exposure to the rock climbing scene of the 1970s and 80s, doesn’t translate at all well on here such as :
well ard (tough)
gnarly (really well ard !!)
reet… right (as in 'right then)
though but …something not quite as.
etc
Many years ago at the height of my climbing years one of the climbing guides even had a guide to ‘the language’ and i still smile to hear it in the climbers ‘caffs’ up and down the country.
Over here i am amused towards contempt of the kids who sprinkle their language with film americanisms …alongside everything being ‘like’…oh dear oh dear…
Here is a little story though :
The first time i ever came to the US was by way of the whitbread around the world race in 1989-90, on my first morning in fort lauderdale i went across the road from the boat to a diner to get breakfast.
Now…that was a new experience in itself, seriously, but when the guy running the place came out with a rapid fire (can’t even aproximate it) whaddyaeatin.n.drinkinbud…i late found that he was from ‘noo yoik’ and even the fl locals couldn’t understand him and it was a canuck at thebar who patiently acted as interpreter.
Ok so i learnt that i like my eggs over easy…and i learnt not to order tea !!–god what you people call tea !!
Don’t think I knew you were a climber, Big Nurse. My husband is a very accomplished climber. Both rock and ice. Put up a number of first ascents. He’s still incredibly impressive at 48.
Snaps–i was a very active climber in my 20s and 30s , wasn’t technically very good but hugely enjoyed the whole life.
I havn’t climbed actively for some 15 years now but still hanker to get back on the rock.
Main problem is that i have so many interests that take up time that i have had to put climbing aside–even when i was climbing actively i was always torn between my life in offshore sail racing and my clinmbing, sailing won out in the end.
Bizzarrely i would probably be better on the rock now being both lighter again and fitter.
Nice to hear about your husband .
EDIT…
Just remembered this :
I have recently been reading Ron Fawcetts biography (rock athlete) …big ron was the leading light of my climbing era, anyway --there is a film (sid perou i think) of ron putting up a new route on the left wall at dinas cromlech–think it was ‘lord of the flies’…so ron is struggling a bit, never had much to say on a route but comes out with the classic line …
'Come on arms do your stuff'
So i am in the gym trying to bench that bar…and it always comes back…
Come on arms...do your stuff.
Cool stuff, Nurse. Snap, glad you & your significant other have so much in common.
Some thoughts on Sheiko:
I kicked up eating in the past week, may explain yesterday’s stellar performance.
It’s all low reps, so will take at least a week off, doing hi rep miscellaneous stuff. Hams really need some GHR.
Need to take some more 1 RM measurements . . . pretty damn sure I went up.
And before anyone asks, it is not going to overtrain you or burn you out or anything. You do have to eat plenty, and get lots of sleep, and work on mobility and all. Got a number of tiny aches here & there, but goes away in a day or two.
It’s strictly powerlifting orientated, may seem limited on exercises, but good at overall gains.
Seriously considering going on another cycle in a week or 2.
All these years of getting little results, told hardgainers must cut back on exercise, we overtrain so easy. Now going with hi volume first time in life, not killing me, might actually be working. I’ve heard pro bodybuilders say they don’t gain unless do 20 sets / bodypart, never took it seriously. Maybe there’s something to it.
Congrats on finishing Sheiko! And double congrats on finishing with a great session! Gotta feel good about that! Loud applause from the Goat pen!

^^^ I would have loved to have seen this. Never seen a man crying while lifting.
Congrats for completing Sheiko. Great effort.
Word of warning though. I did one of these high volume, low perecentage routines (Stephan Korte’s 3x3) a few years back and don’t be upset if you can’t immediately hit PRs off the back of it. I found the higher weights a real shock when I put them up afterwards. It might take you a couple of weeks of getting used to higher percentage stuff again before you will be able to “demonstrate” all the strength you have built, but I’m sure you will hit PRs.
Goat, many humble thanks.
I dunno Brett, you’ve shown some pretty entertaining videos yourself when you were learning OL.
Thanks. Point taken about your high volume program. Sheiko goes up to 85% at times, so I’d call it medium-high. I was upping the estimated values when they felt too easy to what would have been almost 100% of the original estimate. Was thinking of taking it easy for a week, then check 1 RM.
I think Sheiko assumes you only hit max during a meet, and train at percentages of that the rest of the time. I saw one Sheiko plan where you test 1 RM during the cycle, but - oddly - tells you to keep training at percentages of the former max.
The web site says once you’re finished with the 29 program, you’re ready for number 37. Very much the same, except - oh dear Lord in heaven - even more volume.
Hey are you gonna compete again?
Shit I give you alot of credit for doing Sheiko, I looked into it, and backed the fuck off of it lol!
Agree about Sheiko…that’s just a nutso amount of volume!
Great work in finishing it up. I’m really anxious to seeing what’s next on the agenda.
james
Matty, first I have to find a job. Lead of the moment: a nearby gig in web design. It’s a 6 mo contract, which sucks, but they’re easier to get than a long term. A staffing firm is fighting for me, which helps. Once settled, will consider competing.
Actually, you should try Sheiko. It’s so much fun. Really. Nice and easy and relaxing and you’ll get as big as Ronnie in a week . . . OK, I’m kidding. Seriously, I’m envious of how you gain so well without weird killer programs.
James, thanks. Seems that the program was a bit more stressful than I thought, getting heart arythmia more than usual. Will take it easy for a week or 2, then may go on to the next Sheiko cycle. Assuming I don’t have to move for a new job first.
Trivia note: it’s Lucille Ball’s 100th birthday and the 60th anniversary of I Love Lucy.
