HARA

Matty,

The program calls for a lot of preworkout movements to prepare for the training session “rolling, smashing, stretching” I honestly had to stop myself from doing deadlifts today because I feel so fresh. I’m doing ab work and 100 hyper extensions every night before bed. The numbers are given to me based on my last meet results…I’m just doing as I’m told in regards to your band question.

Hey guys, been asked not to post Cube details online so will post review and results once this cycle is done.

I’m back.

Haven’t been posting but have been training.

Highlights:

Completed 10 week Cube cycle: 3 weeks before my cycle was over my meet was moved UP 3 weeks. That kind of a move speaks volumes about how little regard you have for your athlete’s preparation to compete. Rant over.

Back to Cube Results: I put 10Lbs on my 1 rep maxes across the board…while being 10lbs lighter in bodyweight. This would have had me lifting in the 181Lb class totaling 30 more pounds than my 198lb total. It’s not the huge jump I got out of HTS training…but I’ll take it.

What’s next, I decided to set some 5 rep goals…Need a break from singles and doubles for a while. Last week I started doing a Madcow 5x5. I’m going to keep my weight where it is and commit to 5x5 till I start failing and it becomes 3x3.

There are a few meets in the Spring and Summer I’m keeping my eye on. If I hit my 5 rep goals (Sq 405 B 290 DL 500) sooner than later I’ll send in an application.

I’ve begun 5x5 with very low starting numbers. Wendler logic. Start light so you have more time to build up. I’m also perfecting form and 5 rep cadence.

Good work. Sucks about the meet being moved up. What Fed. pulled that BS?

World natural powerlifting fed

Madcow 5x5 highlights

Hit 355 squat triple sans wraps felt light and fast. Elbows grazed knees so I know I was deep

270 Paused triple on bench felt light as well

Pendlay rows top set 220x3

Deadlift 445x5 easy

averaging 3-4 accessories per session depending what I feel like doing. Got a rower for the home gym, rotating Prowler (weather permitting), hills, elliptical, and now rower on off days.

Working hard this week, off to Mexico next week for some R&R.

Block Periodization & PRs

I’ve been visiting this site again so I figured an update was in order.

When I got back from Mexico in February I decided to make a run at a May 18th USAPL meet.

I went with Block Periodization for my programming. I think I’ve found my “go to” meet prep now.

I injured my lat about 3 weeks before the meet (I’m just getting back to normal now) but was still able to PR on all my lifts under strict judging.

Squat 463 (13lb PR) Bench 330 (25lb PR) Deadlift 462 (12Lb PR)

Couldn’t get 585 past my knees because of lat injury but I know I’ll get it when I’m healthy.

I’m currently training for a Sept 8th meet. My weight is 196lbs. My goals for this meet are 475,340,585

I’ll be 44 in October.

I’m getting close to my long time squat and deadlift goals of 500 / 600.

Training Update.

I’m 3 weeks out now. Feeling very healthy and strong. My body weight is holding around 200Lbs so the 198’s should be easy to make.

I matched my paused competition bench in the gym last week with a 330. Went up as fast as it did at the meet so I’m on track for a PR.

On squats, hit a knee sleeve no belt PR with 415, then put wraps and a belt on and smoked 435 for a training PR.

I wasn’t able to deadlift at this point during my last training cycle because of my lat injury and still hit a PR. I’ve been very conservative on my pulls and not going over 90%. Tomorrow is my last heavy workout before a deload so I may just try and creep over 515 to get a feel for the heavier weights.

On my off days I’ve been doing a 5:30 AM Bikrum (Hot Yoga) class. I always considered myself a flexible guy but Bikrum has taken my flexibility and recovery to a different level. I feel fresh every time I step in the gym. Highly recommend it.
