Happy Birthday, George Washington!

Where have all the George Washingtons, the Thomas Jeffersons and the Teddy Roosevelts gone? Why don’t they get into politics anymore?

They are out there. We just refuse to vote for them. i.e. Dr. Ron Paul.

Oh…and I celebrate Washington’s birthday every year. I blow out candles, eat a bit of cake, and even sometimes receive presents on old George’s behalf. ;)[/quote]

Agreed, I shall re-watch that cool “Washington the Warrior” documentary on the history channel and pound some beers. I actually save a ton of fireworks each year for annual celebrations. (i.e. Bastille day, USMC birthday, The buring of the HMS Gaspee, The Boston Tea Party, ect.) I certainly don’t do it on President’s Day, as I would only celebrate Lincoln’s death, not his birth. Sic Semper Tyranis indeed.

Two more occasions for your fireworks, Mike: April 19, Patriot’s Day, commemorating the battles of Lexington and Concord…or the Waco Massacre, depending on your politics (and since Lincoln was shot on April 14, the 19th would be convenient for you to celebrate that as well); and November 5, Guy Fawkes Night. Granted, this is not an American holiday. However, a British holiday commemorating the guy who tried to blow up the British Parliament surely has much to recommend it. You could turn it into a party, where everyone wears V for Vendetta masks.

I told each of my classes what day it was, because the lib media would never acknowledge this great man. I told them how this man with a great idea changed the world for the better.

I also said a silent ‘Thank You!’ to someone who gave me far more than I could ever have given him.

We met no resistance.

It was glorious!!!

You realize, Jeff, that with maybe four or five more guys doing the same thing, you could probably conquer France. It’s worth a try, anyway.

Any of you guy celebrate Charles Martel’s birthday sometimes?

Mayors of the Palace can accomplish great things too…like stopping Sharia Law from taking over France. We need someone to step up and do the same.

France nothing. You mean all of Western Europe. Charles the Hammer was a T-Man all the way. Check this out:

Martel’s Franks, virtually all infantry without armor, withstood both mailed heavy cavalry with 20 foot lances, and bow-wielding light cavalry, without the aid of bows or firearms. This was a feat of war almost unheard of in medieval history, a feat which even the heavily armored Roman legions proved themselves incapable of against the Parthians, and left Martel a unique place in history as the savior of Europe and a brilliant general in an age not known for its generalship.

Well, you’re well on your way.

During the time of those Mayors of the palace, “the majordomo had the real decision power, while their kings had only a ceremonial function.”

Exactly like Cheney and Bush.

HH, really, I hate libs something fierce, but 90% of them are still willing to acknowledge GEORGE WASHINGTON as being a great man. Come on man.

Agreed, April 19th is a HUGE day for me. It sickens me that for some reason April 19th isn’t Patriot’s Day anymore since it was redesignated as September 11th. I’m sorry, but being a victim of a terrorist attack does not make one a patriot.

I appreciate your sentiments. But don’t we have to wonder why there was very little mention of the man? Granted, very few days are acknowledged; probably because the people are simply not aware.

Our knowledge of our history is terrible.

More people probably know who Anna Nicole is, but don’t know who the VP is. Sad…

I think celebrating the date for Lexington and Concord is great.

Recognizing it for the day the federal government overstepped its bounds at Waco is OK.

I think the memory of the bombing at OKC kind of poisons the day.

I suggest the last two books (chapters) of Gregory of Tours’ Historia Frankorum for a good discription of the type of men the Franks were. Barbarian to the core. It was written more than a century before Charles but it gives an entertaining account of their society.

I think it would be nice, if some of the decendants of these famous presidents, would step forward and speak about the things they personnally know, about their famous family members.

I loved Guy Fawkes Day growing up.

How many people celebrate Fawkes himself and how many celebrate his execution?
