Handling A**holes at Work?

It’s just part of growing up and becoming a man. At some point you learn to stick up for yourself physically. Sadly then you need to unlearn that when joining the profesional work force. The quicker you rule out emotional outbursts or thoughts of attack, the sooner you will start to come up with other solutions. Sitting around fantasizing about telling him off or kicking his ass will only hold you back.

Stay calm, profesional, but most importantly asertive. You will always be picked on if you don’t learn to be asertive. It’s an invaluable skill.

Sound’s alittle off, but this Keepin it real skit applies the most to our discussion.

Though he could’ve ignored the simple comment his mentor made, Vernon decided to keep it real…

I’m european. I have worked in germany.
You will find assholes all over the place, and world over - taking the higher ground is the BEST thing to do in a professional setting, no matter how despicable your antagonist and his/her actions. And taking the higher ground is NOT lying silent and taking it up the ass either, as many have explained already.
Ken St.Mich wrote:

Maybe there are cultural differences. In Germany it is outrageous to tell someone to shut up in a professional environment (unless it´s among friends and rough and tumble play).
Maybe it happens on construction sites but not on higher levels.

Even on construction sites, towards the cleaning staff or other low qualified workers it is morally wrong.

Maybe it´s different in your country. At least it would explain the dick waving in the internet.
If you have to suppress your feelings at work and get treated like a piece of crap without the possibility of redemption you want to be a real man somewhere.

That wasn’t the one I was thinking of, but that’s even more appropriate. You and Lanky can split the one million internetz.

Think what you want about me, I don’t care. Being humiliated in the workforce is one thing I’ll never stand for, even if it means a bigger paycheque in the long run, a slut is still a slut even if she sleeps her way to the top of the corporate ladder, how’s allowing yourself to be bitched at in hopes of a raise, even when doing your job right any different? You don’t know me or what I can be capable of so talk all you want.
Thats all heroic and inspirational to say, until you can’t get a job anymore and you’ve got a mortgage, wife, and kids to feed.

And of course, when you lose your job, its not your fault, right? And of course, you’re going to head over to the unemployment office and start collecting a check because, even though it’s your fault you lost your job for being a dickweed, it’s up to the rest of us to foot the bill for your lack of social skills via our tax dollars, right? Shut the fuck up and do your job.

Pretty sure you can’t support all that on a Burger King wage anyway. But hey, maybe Subway is hiring, and after Mr. Hardcorez gets fired from there too, he can always try Sizzler.

LOL. Once you step away from the college text books and into the real world you will understand, that as an adult, “acting like a real man” doesn’t involve violence or verbal altercation.

Yes sometimes you get treated like shit at work, yes the real world is difficult, yes sometimes you have to eat a little humble pie.

Dude, you haven’t a clue what a “real man” is.
Ha

A real man I am.

You seem to be a keyboard hero, acting tough in the internet.
If you´d tell me that personally (which I doubt you had the balls for) you´d be countingteeth, scattered on the floor before you´d know it.
I bet you´d cry and say you´re sorry (and you are) but it´d be too late because this time you didn´t insult a spineless pushover but a real man.

Better keep sucking your bosses cock and then make your subordinates do it as well.
Those who don´t want to can leave until you are a company of weak pushovers.
Is that what you think a real man does?

A good business man would expect a leader to be bold, respected and enforce his rights and interests.
Besides being competent, these are qualities which are needed.
If you want to be in a leading position you´ll have to take care of it.
Maybe there are places for spineless sheeps but I would not want to be in such a place.

Okay so let’s break this down:

  1. Bold: not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff

not hesitating to break the rules of propriety; forward; impudent

    necessitating courage and daring; challenging

Now that the English lesson is out of the way, I can tell you a bit about leadership.

“Enforcing (your) rights and interests”

How is enforcing your interests a great leadership quality? Sounds pretty fucking selfish to me.

And it’s not your job as a boss to enforce your “rights”, that’s the government’s job.

Although I can think of one great leader who was all of the qualities you described. You might have heard of him: Adolf Hitler - Wikipedia

spoiler alert it’s fucking hitler.

I used to know a guy who was working at a new fast food joint every 5 weeks because he kept it real like dat and inevitably flipped his shit on every manager who didn’t think he was doing them a favor by mopping the floors.

Here’s how it works: you get a job and you work to earn your pay. Very rarely does your employer NEED you the way you NEED them. Especially in today’s job market, there are plenty of people more than willing to do whatever it is you do and probably for less pay too. If you aren’t expendable, than you probably aren’t having trouble with your boss because you ARE the boss.

These man-children need to learn the difference between the workplace and the rest of their lives. I’m not going to disrespect someone or give them a hard time out on the street, but if they’re working under me and not doing what they are being paid to do, then they’re going to hear about it. If they’re not doing what they are being paid to do and that puts MY job in jeopardy, then they aren’t going to like their life until they get their shit together.

This is great.

Someone had to do it. So what exactly are you implying Deadwood?

So his right to be treated respectfully was violated and it´s the government´s job to protect it?
How can you enforce a companies interest if you can´t even enforce your own.

Read some textbooks on economy and capitalism. Not those with the colourfull illustrations and bubbles you´re used to.

Talking about how you would knock my teeth out on the internet, all while calling ME a
keyboard hero
? Jesus, are you trolling now or really this disconnected from intelligence?

Me telling you the truth, that you are, in fact, incorrect on your assumptions about how things work, is not acting tough. I’m actually trying to let you know that your college text books, and childish bravado are not the way the real world works. But feel free to learn that lesson by being fired and/or arrested. Please do society a favor and get yourself locked up.

So you resort to violence based on someone’s verbal response to your actions? You must get in a lot of fights, just like KIDS in high school do.

But don’t worry keep acting tough on the internet. I’m so impressed, its awesome

No that is not what a real man does. Your assumptions of my behaviors are incorrect. Just because I don’t act like an ignorant, uneducated fool because someone else was unprofessional, doesn’t mean I cower and take abuse. You lack the sophistication to understand how to handle a confrontation without violence or trying to intimidate. So I will refrain from trying to explain to you how to react when your boss is acting unprofessional.

You can just beat his ass like you mentioned, and I’m going to go spend my 5 figure bonus. I hope your daddy has bail money for you.

You won’t be in any place but a remedial job for the uneducated and unreserved. You wouldn’t make it past 10 mins in an interview. We can spot arrogant fools from a mile away. We would write “No” on your resume as soon as you sat down. That is assuming the blood stains from your victims on your resume didn’t stop us from calling you in the first place.

Oh and LOL that you think you have any idea how to run a business. What did you take a few classes in school? LOL…

I love how all you tough guys think acting like an educated, professional, adult in the face of adversity is now weakness. While acting like an uneducated, childish, heathen makes you a man.

This will be my last response to you, because you have proven your inability to reason on a level that warrants a further response. (In case your having a hard time figuring that phrase out, I’m calling you a dumbass. Which I most certainly would say to your face, all while smiling.)

Have a nice day Chuck Norris, enjoy a life of failure and being poor. Make sure you show your girlfriend who’s boss too. Wouldn’t want people to think you lost your balls by not slapping her around.

More than likely… That’s why I haven’t said anything on here. I’ve worked in enough places that you can’t treat every situation the same way. It’s one of the only things that I miss, when I did constuction. Issues were handled right then and there, without any bullshit and no passive-aggressive baby shit.

Glad you’re feeling better. I just got over a small cold, thank god. I don’t need to feel crappy when I go on vacation next week.

No shit retard, the point I’m trying to make isn’t whether a person shouldn’t be fired if they’re doing their job horribly (they should) its when you become an easy target when your boss is in a bad mood EVEN when you come in on time and are doing a good job. In cases like that you talk back and tell them off. Obviously your too much of an idiot to realize this. Haha your probably a uneducated grunt who worked his way from the bottom up to sub-par position through ass kissing and picking up others slack like the weak-willed coward that you are and can now finally realize his dream of making other peoples lives miserable. Next time your expecting a raise smile at your boss while he scowls at you and most likely talks shit behind your back, while your at it become a doormat for other coworkers to pile their work upon, then finally watch in horror as your boss gives a promotion to the more impulsive ballsy coworker. That’ll be a laugh won’t it.
