To do them, instead of keeping the db out to your side, bring it up in front of and across your body. This will let you use significantly more weight as you wont be trying to support the weight so far away from your center of gravity.

you just described a proper hammer curl…

Hammer curls are brought out in front of the body, pinwheels are taken across the body. Chances are what youve been calling hammer curls are actually pinwheels. A Hammer curl is a regular curl where you keep your hand in a neutral position.

hmm then Victor Martinez must have been wrong.

I cant believe youre going to go there with this discussion.

Do you really think Vic is some giant all knowing encyclopedia of exercise names? Most people do pinwheels and think they are hammer curls because they start out doing them out to the side and start bringing them in across the body to use more weight.

Maybe instead of worrying about what theyre called, you could just go do them.

As could you.

These look pretty good to really squeeze your biceps is this the correct way to do them:

I’d like some of your opinions on whether this guy is using too much cheat? It looks like it to me…I see a lot of upper pec/deltoid assistance so he can use that heavy a dumbbell. Wouldn’t he get the same benefit to his arms to say use 100’s and focus on doing the movement more with his arms? That is how I always try to do them…but maybe I’d gain faster cheating big like that…What do you think?

Thats how you do pinwheels…and thats why theyre not called hammer curls. Hammer curls are strict and out to the side and pinwheels are not so strict and across the body.

IronWarrior:

Im doing them on Monday actually…I got up to the 65’s for 20 reps last time so Im going to try to move on to the 70’s now. Thanks for reminding me.

When i said Victor martinez, i was wrong. I’ve been watching too much of Vic. I meant to say Charles glass and Gunter Shclirkamp (sp)?

anyway, watch this: webcast.bodybuilding.com/fitshow/fitshow/episode39/episode39.wmv (right click save-as if it doesn’t work)

Go to 10 minutes.

i watched that episode of the fitshow there now i found it very very benefitial to my training i picked up on a few tips.

-Spider curls look awesome

  • Tip about not bringing the bar fully down when perfroming a close grip bench press for complete tricep isolation and no chest stimulation either, excellent.

  • Ill take the above tip and use it while bench pressing for my chest i will only take the bar up 85-90% rather than the full way so there is minimal tricep stimuation

  • French curls - might add this into my routine the look awesome also

What your views on training to failure the trainer of gurtar said it does something to glycogen and adds definiton or something?

Great find Hussayn, thanks

I tried it last week, it works so much better than bringing it all the way down. My triceps would stay constantly contracted with no rest.

I’m still learning so i still don’t have a proper opinion on training to failure yet. IF you were asking me.
