I recently got a job with the Navy(DOD police) so today I had to get a full physical.
Everything went fine until the nurse asked about medications. She said this would include any kind of suppliments I take.I decided to tell her everthing because I’ve heard that some suppliments read wrong on a drug screen. What a mistake that was…
I told her I had taken creatine. She said ‘Do you drink allot of water’?I said ‘yes’ and she said 'That stuff is really bad for you and your kidneys.'I didn’t want to argue.I told her I was just finishing up some left over creatine and that I hardly use it(which is true).
Then I told her I was using Andro products. She said ‘That’s stuff is bad for you too,it gives you high blood pressure.’ Yet,she checked my blood pressure and it’s normal. But she said I should still stop using those…(sigh)
Jesus Christ,I just wanted to get the hell out of there at this point. So I told her one more thing that I knew I would have to take allot shit for.I told her I’ve taken ephedra products.
She said ‘Well you definitly know that’s bad’ I wanted to beat my head against the table but instead I told her I would take her advice and I left.
BTW…this nurse was female,225 lbs. and probably had a pack of Camel lights in her purse. How dare she pick on my poor suppliments
I told my Mom she might want to up her Vitamin C intake a bit since I was getting a cold and would be coming for a visit. She asked her doctor and the doc said and I quote “you get enough Vitamin C in a single orange. Nobody needs anymore.” Instead of getting mad, I immediately made my Mom some green tea, gave her some Vitamin C, talked to her about fish oil and told her to get a new doctor.
Yeah, my wife’s sister is a nurse, and my wife wants me to shut up about my supplements when she is around. She recently said, ?“You get a big kick out of annoying her don’t you.” I just grinned.
I don’t keep my mouth shut, and I become more vocal every day. Your nurse probably would have kicked me out.
I had a pre-op appointment this spring. The nurse must have went 300 lb. She looked at my pulse rate at 48 BPM and my BP at 103/55 and asked me if I ever get dizzy going up the stairs or anything. “You mean when I’m jogging up two at a time? No”. I think she probably got dizzy waddling out to get her mail.
One of my friends used to be my doctor. We had a short discussion about fitness and diet. Her lack of knowledge was amazing but she was sure she was “right”. I no longer discuss that topic with her.
I made the mistake of admitting to AAS use once. It might have been good for them to know since I was bleeding internally at the time. One doc went off and told me a ton of things I was sure weren’t true. I researched what he claimed later to be sure and he was in fact out to lunch. Once I got to a big hospital they were more concerned about the tylenol I’d taken in the last 48 hours than the AAS. Later I met with the head honcho of the GI department at the local teaching hospital for my follow up. Since it was in the record I asked her if anything about my AAS usage had contributed to my problem and she flatly stated no. I asked her if I could go back to using them and lifting heavy and she said that she saw no reason not to. Not all docs are evil…
You just have to be prepared to hear people spout off and try and “save you” if you adopt anything other than a sedentary lifestyle fueled by Big Macs.
I used to get the same shit when I worked at GNC.People would come in and tell me that our vitamin A and E were in too high of doses.Just because they would look on the back and see 333% or 1000% USRDA.Then I have to explain to these douche bags that there are herion addicts out there who have been using for 10 years and yet you’re worried about over dosing on vitamin A???..or the woman who came in looking for the amino acids that tighten up your skin.I told her there was no such thing. And she ask ‘Is there someone here more knowledgeable?’…bitch please!! She needs a face lift and thinks she is going to get the same results by taking L-Lysine or something?..I couldn’t take it anymore so I quit.
