Last week, a case of strep throat had been going around selecting a few people to attack at my MMA school. I wasnt really sure if it got me. My only symptoms were body chills, cold forehead, difficult (pressureful) breathing and bad throat taste.
I continued to work out anyway for a few days. The fever I had went away quickly (less then a day) but my throat is still enflamed and my voice sounds like Dr.Girlfriend on roids.
This is finally capped off with frequent coughing and hacking up chunky potato like gobs of bloody something- mucus, phlem, lung, the nine. It always has a hard consistancy to it. This has been going on for a few days, the coughing and strep for over a week.
Can anyone identify this illness or has this happened to anyone here?

Thats what worries me the most. My doctor is convinced that the blood im coughing up is simply my sinuses bleeding, releasing pressure, and dripping into my throat where it gets hacked up. He called it an “acute post nasal drip infection”. He also said it was sure to go away in a few days. I listened to him because I have had him for a while, and he seems like a pretty good doctor.
I also know im not contagious, seeing as im the only one who has these symptoms.
I actually diddnt know untreated strep can lead to other problems. With this in mind, I will make that second appointment.

Strangely enough, I am in the process of recovering from an illness with the exact symptoms you are talking about. I got swabbed for strep at my student health center but it wasn’t that. I went to the ER when I started coughing up blood and they took blood from me and swabbed me and found nothing. They just told me to wait it out because it was probably viral, and now I’m almost recovered.
So while I’m not telling you it is the same thing I had and that you shouldn’t get checked out by a doc for whatever it could be, just because you’re coughing up blood doesnt mean you’re going to die. At least I hope it doesn’t…because then I’ve got a date with the reaper.
Whatever this is, its been going around. I hear all the time of people getting sick with these symptoms that arent too near to me either. It’s usually a friend who gets sick, and their relative gets sick, and so on; and its people in NJ/NY area.
The blood hasnt really stopped coming up with the icky, it just feels like a rock in my throat. Im constantly clearing my throat so I can speak clearly, and the roughness is really annoying.
One of my sisters has this, and she is on Amoxicyllan (spelling?). For some reason, my doctor felt he diddnt need to perscribe me antibiotics.
