Hello guys I want to share with you a recent dilemma that I’m facing and get a right advice from serious lifters.
Here it is; the gym that I’m now it is a very tiny one with little space to move, not a rack for a proper squat, with a lack of some extra equipment (fancy most), its a little outdated that sometimes I feel there’s danger for my safety. But I walk to reach it (12-15 minutes) that I find refreshing for me and i enjoy it and not so many people are attending in the mornings that I prefer going to the gym. Thing is if smthng happens and I miss my morning training and go in the afternoon, if there’s more than 8 people in it you have some of a problem to move freely etc
So next there’s a commercial gym with all the fancy equipment not to mention the basics for a proper training session. The thing with this one is that many people are enrolled, that can’t stop you from training though cause there’s always space, but how much of a concentration can you achieve and mind-muscle connection if everybody moves around you(I’ll punch someone cause I don’t like to train with a lot of people around) and plus I need to use subway (4-5 minutes) so no walking for me.
I know thats not a serious topic but i need an answer so what do you think should I do for proper training, I mean what would you chose based on what I described above?
Thanks in advance to anybody that will deal with this concern of mine
The gym selection would depending on your goals. If gym A does not have a proper squat rack and your goal involves barbell squatting, than the question is already answered.
Chose the gym that allows you to work on your goals.
Thanks you made it a lot of easier for me!
Exactly, you should change. Then you’ll eventually get used to people moving around. I don’t know about you but if you really are focused it won’t bother you eventually. Like when you do a very heavy deadlift, you look but you don’t “see” anything, like blank, when youa re very focused, if you get what I’m saying
How can there really be a choice then?
The walk is a non issue as you can walk around the area of the other gym before you go in or jump on a treadmill. It costs you an extra 5 minutes of time.
So the question is are you willing to risk your safety for a less busy (but not crowded) gym?
I sure get your point I agree with you, its just that I have to work on it as it will be a new environment for me to adjust to…
I hope that as you mention, I will get used to it, that’s what I was thinking about too, and have experienced what you’re describing with a heavy sumo deadlift
No you’re absolutely right and thank you for pointing it out!
You know sometimes it is the power of the habit that keeps you in one thing and makes it difficult for you to make changes but it’s until you make the decision
Go to better gym via subway. Walk some other time.
Thank you for sharing your point of view, much appreciated and I’ll do that!!!
If it’s within your budget I would join both. Due to my travels I belong to a local gym and a big national chain that has gyms everywhere. That give me freedom to change it up and never miss a workout in the road. Some companies also pay for gyms as part of the health plan.
@magnumd
I can do that but my problem is that I’m a person that sticks to a habit also aims to create steady things and I want a routine to feel that I’m doing it right so I’m afraid if I do that I will feel insecure and do not perform correct…
You think I’m going it too far?
Yep you are over thinking this. I believe that change is good in a routine because being the amazing machine that the body is it can adapt and stop making progress. Don’t be afraid to flip everything every now and then.
Ok so I’ll keep the old gym membership and enroll to the new one and see how will that work for me- been thinking about it too but I found it risky at first
I was going to suggest that. I mean you’re not always in the same state of mind, so one day you might just need to have the gym to only yourself, others, it might not matter. If after a few months you see there’s no benefit to having both memberships, cancel the one you enjoy less.
Thank yoy Danny you’re right, doesn’t harm to give it a go and see what it’ll bring!!
Im only worried about my routine and for me loosing my concentration!
I have a few days where I’m just not feeling it or I’m too distracted. But using a timer during my workout forces me to go through it and not lose too much focus. Maybe give that a shot of you find yourself losing concentration during you workout? It wouldn’t hurt.
That’s a very good idea actually def doing this
I don’t know if my taking 1 minute break will affect this though!
