That cause this kids never were spanked by mom or dad or anything and feel no fear. There precious feelings were coddled and protected. Cause of the ultra-PC people feel hitting your kids is wrong.
We knew to respect the big guys cause we could get clobbered. Cause we learn that big people can fuck you up. In school this was true as well as at home. I never messed with my dad directly cause of healthy fear of his wrath.
Yesterday, some asshole had the audacity to ask me where i got my chalk from. I responded and he went on to ask if it really helped with grip. And I said yes… People in my gym can be such scumbags.

I don’t even know if it’s the lack of spanking or anything like that, I think it’s more the fact that parents of this younger generation wanted to be “friends” with their kids instead of actual parents.

That too like your kids and you are equals or something. Yeah they have rights …but damn a spank here or there or yelling at your kids never hurts them. It prepares them for real life.

Its kinda funny that I am pro spanking but I never have to hit my kid. All I have to do is speak a certain way and point is driven home. How do I know? Cause my kid starts to cry and has hard time catching their breath.
My dad did the same thing and it works. Unless we really fucked up. Ohh boy then you better sleep with one eye open. LOLz
Exactly - which is why I love being a coach for a club team and not directly involved with the school systems.
The govt has gotten so involved and so PC at the school level that teachers can’t discipline in school and with parents not doing so it’s simply become a mess.

Seriously, come off as a bit aggressive when you are lifting around others. Not over bearing, but enough for people to know you mean business and are there for no bullshit (gets easier as you get bigger). Grunt a bit to psyche yourself up before a hard set, talk to yourself a bit, drop the bar into the J hooks, toss the plates to one end of the bar while you are loading up the other. In between your sets look around the gym making sure to grab people’s attention. Glance at them long enough for them to get uncomfortable but not long enough to piss them off. People will think you’re a crazy mofo.
Walk like you mean business and choose to speak only to those who everyone wants to be like. Here and there strike up a convo with someone else who doesn’t appear to have a circle and create your own little circles.

I disagree. I’m always polite and approachable in the gym. D-bags and asshats come in all ages.
All of this persona crap is a little overdoing it. Just lift with purpose and GTFO. You don’t HAVE to deal with anyone. The drone mentality of “putting on my blinders” when in the gym just doesn’t seem that necessary. I talk, text, look at girls, and listen to my iPod and I still get shit done. No excuses.
The guy asking me how long I had left while I’m straining in the middle of a set was rude to begin with… Contrary to some people’s experience here, the guy did have pretty massive arms. Easily over 20 inches. Maybe there’s something to bicep curls at the squat rack (jk).
Most people at my gym are cool though. This guy was an exception. No one re-racks weights, but I think that happens everywhere.
A few weeks ago I was putting 75lbs dumbbells back and tripped on a 120lbd dumbbell someone left on the floor slightly sticking out from under the dumbbell rack. My right hand with one of the 75lbs dumbbells jammed into the metal edge of the rack and split my finger wide open. Blood was gushing out surprisingly fast (my pulse was going fast after the exercise). Cut wide and straight to the bone. ug.

I witnessed something similar, only the dude hit his head and not his hand. Had a nasty cut on his forehead. After that I’ve always done the extra effort to put the stuff I use back in their respective places, especially DB’s and plates. It really pisses me off to go to a Squat Rack or a Bench and find it loaded and not used by anyone. The other day one of the trainers told one of the gym-goers to put the DB’s back where he found them and the asshole told the gym trainer “Nah, that’s your job” and just walked away.
I mean, what is so fucking difficult about putting the equipment used back in its place? Grrrr

I think the whole macho bullshit in the gym is just as tired as the ignorant and clueless stuff you see. People need to chill out. It’s really not THAT big of a deal that someone asks to work in, or is hogging a machine. Stay poised kid, there’s people who would KILL to be lifting at your gym. Life will go on.

I like this. Reminds me of the Aristotelian balance of virtues, not too much or too little of something.

lmfaoo. come to think of it there might be something about curls in the squat racks. usually at my gym people just do curls and rows in the squat rack. (we have those shitty “safety” squat racks.) but usually the guys who do curls there have massive arms lol.
and im glad i learned to be careful with reracking DBs early on. there was a girl at my school who sliced the tip of her finger off when she was reracking a fairly heavy DB and it got caught between the weight and the rack 0.0

same here. theres actually very few teenagers who go my gym but most of us are pretty serious. most of the dbags are Cuban guys in their 20s,( hell, even old ass cuban guys. almost all of them are vain as fuck. and usually quite effeminate) or just random, assorted assholes. i have to admit that even tho i make a conscious effort not to, im often pretty judgemental and contemptuous about people at the gym. some days i see so many people doing stupid ass shit that it distracts me from my workout and it pisses me off.
a couple weeks ago i was squatting. i warmed up and did 5 hard ass sets of 10. when i was warming up i noticed a guy sitting at the incline bench, texting, but he had weight on the bar so i figured hed do something. couple of sets in. he was still sitting there, texting. mind you this guy was in like his thirties. by my last set i looked over, and he just stood up, left his weight unracked, and walked away.
