Gym Rage ?

http://abcnews.go.com/US/Story?id=3626412

I read this crap about “gym rage”. Despite the underling intention and attempt to further feminize the men in the US and the world, it did make me think of this this

One day about 8 years ago I’m happily lifting weights in a (don’t laugh) Ballys gym and I’m doing dumbbell presses with 90 lbs, minding my own business. Only two other guys are around. One of them (the prick) I never saw before. I drop the weights on ground. Not hard but to the point where I don’t want to do negative curls with 90 lb DBs.

So this one guy who look’s like he gets off on beating his wife and kid in his trailer, comes up to me and tells me not to drop the weights. If I can’t control them, then I shouldn’t be using them. It also seemed like he was on the verge of rage. He said dropping the weights looses them up and that the staff doesn’t have the wrench to tighten them up. I showed him how to tighten them up. (Its an easy trick, you just put it on the floor, put your finger on the screws, and turn counterclockwise) It still looked like he wanted to start a fight.

I noticed him earlier working out his chest with extreme intensity. I mean it seemed like he just walked in on his boss sodomizing his wife. Mean guy. He probably would kicked my ass at the time so when he turned his back I bashed his head in with a dumbbell and feed his body to my pigs… The gym staff complemented me on my contribution to society and the pigs where well feed:)

No in reality he just finished his w/o and I did the same. At the time me and the other guy in there thought he was having “roid rage” but he was probably just a hateful man with a shit life.

In my 13 years of going to the gym, this is the only time I’ve experienced something like this.

I don’t think this is a just a gym phenomenon at all. It permeates our society at all levels. I guess I’ve been on both ends of it to be honest. I think it is due to stress. The world today with all its hurry and electronics and bad news is a giant stress ball.

It affects everyone. There are days when I drive like an enraged idiot and days when I could care less and just drive and let the other idiots pass by. I’m more at peace with the latter, so I’m trying to work that in more often. (Doesn’t just apply to driving.) Its also easy to blame it on the folks around you, but you consider they are going thru the same things you are and wish they were less stressed too. (For the most part.)

I think the change has to start with the individual however.

Peace.

First off, good example of “gym rage” (if it truly exists. I agree he’s just a hateful man) anyways, what I really thought was a phenomenal part to the story was your “weight drop.” It said to me "It’s ok that I worked out at Ballys (which to me it doesn’t matter where you work out.

You’re effing working out which is in and of itself better than 90% of the population.) because I dumbbell pressed w/ the 90’s." Come on dude, do you really need validate your testicular fortitude by letting us in on how much you were dumbbell pressing while lifting at Ballys Total Fitness 8 years ago? The fact that you post on boards on the most bad-ass site on the internet without nipples pasted on all four corners says enough about you, dude.

Anyways, fuck that dude who wants to pick a fight with someone who’s minding his own business lifting. Good story. Loved it in its entirety.

I’m surprised a Bally’s would have 90lb dumbbells

My husband was in the locker room at the Y one day when somebody took somebody else’s regular locker. The “regular” had a temper tantrum and broke his hand when he punched the locker.

What is right. Who the fuck is this douche bag? Nipples pasted on all four corners? Your methods of communicating with the english language leave little to be desired. Your as clear as a smoggy day in Mexico City in the 1980’s.

You think I’m validating my testicular fortitude by saying I was pressing with 90 lb DBs? Its just a detail dickhead. Plus 90 lb DB presses isn’t impressive to say the least because thats just a warm up on the incline for me. I can bench 405 raw. Why the hell would I reinforce my testicular fortitude with 90 lb DB presses?

So there’s some real sincere testicular fortitude for you “polo”. At least I got a pair. Now you got some ammo to use against me, weirdo.

Also as much as I like T-Nation, this is not the most bad ass sight on the internet. There are other sites that have way more advanced bodybuilders posting on it than this one. Those are the guys I usually learn from.

They usually don’t because of insurance reasons (thats what I was told at least). If I remember correctly there normal DBs went to 65 or 70 lbs. Then they had 2 pairs of DBs from a different manufacturer that didn’t look like they belonged there. In fact there wasn’t a space for them on the rack so they were kept on the floor.

I think one was 85 and the other 90 lbs. Unfortunately they got rid of them:( so I actually moved a few towns over to join a real gym. “The Gym” in Plymouth Minnesota, best place I ever worked out in. Oh how I miss it.

Anyways the reason I brought them up was because at that weight most people drop them instead of doing a negative curl and risking an injury. My biceps are not the most genetically gifted and negatives with 90 lb DBs would probably tear something.

My question now to you is, why did you get so upset at this guys post? Why not just ignore you? You practically demonstrated the “gym rage” in this post…

Kind of ironic.

Screw you man!!! It is his god given right to get upset at this guy’s post without being accused of rage!!!

Oh wait…

You really have to ask this question? I thought it would of been obvious. I was upset because his response was insulting and rude for no apparent good reason.

Yes somethings piss me off and I whole heartily believe that there is nothing wrong with getting angry when it is justified.

Now you want some too!!! I’ll cyber kick your ass all over this board (jk)

No. If you knew me in person you’d realize I’m actually a very chill guy with a very long fuse, but I will stand up for myself. Funny thing is I see so many people irrelevantly substitute their own meaning and intentions on an other persons post. Psychologist call this projecting. This is truly dishonest and damaging to someone’s good name or as some would put it, reputation.

Just think before you attack someone. Have some common decency and respect for others. Not everyone is as bad as you think.

Wow,I read the articles and I have to say, that was ridiculous shit. Thoese people are clearly psychotic. Ive never met anybody thats actted that way after working out. Usually people are to damn tired to even drive home.

If you’ve got the energy to “rage” on somebody in the gym you’re not working out hard enough.

I can never “rage” on someone on leg day.

yeah I understood the need to specify the weight you were using, dropping 25’s woulda been gay, but even when you “control” the 90’s there’s gonna be a loud thud that sounds like dropping.

Thanks man. I wasn’t mentioning it for any ego purposes.

I do get frustrated when people mince words. It happens on other forums sometimes but this one is the worst. I still love T-Nation.
