Or better yet, a small pit (slightly larger around than a man’s anus) right underneath the power rack.

dude if youre gonna open a gym just make one side all cardio and those homo machines and put all the freeweights and normal machines on the other. just add t-bar machines, those things with the cable crossovers and 8 other exercises, squat rack, plenty of benches (free benches & the bench press ones) with varying incline/decline, rubber floors, dumbbells up to 150 and a shitload of the hammer-strength machines and everyone will be happy.
most the people who use all the shit these people are talking about probaly lift in their garage anyway put enough weights to satisfy the “meatheads”/serious lifters and enough random cardio crap to satisfy the people who do nothing and the hot girls who want to run for hours.

Right now I am doing a lot of research on equipment, location, etc…
This is a future endeavour over the next couple of years with primarily athletes and meatheads as my clients.
I would say the essentials are:
Power racks
Plenty of plates
plenty of bars (thick and regular)
DB’s to at least 150lbs.
A couple bench’s
and various other equipment
Extra’s I’d like to have
A Prowler
Squat box’s
Chains and bands
Bumper Plates
I’d consider AC an extra just because it doesn’t get to hot and who wants to be freezing while hitting the weights.

Well, if you’re being serious then I would add a glute ham raise, reverse hyper, deadlifting platform and some bumper plates with an Oly platform. At least some kind of simple cable system would also be a good addition.
MonoLifts are nice… How much money do you have saved???
Oh, and don’t forget the Bosu Balls! Otherwise you wouldn’t be very “functional”. 8^P
Copy this gym

Okay I’m planning on opening a gym so I wanted to ask everyone what they thought about the gym extra’s. Of course the important thing is the equipment and the atmosphere…What I want to know is what about the little things. Do you need a locker room and shower or can a gym go without? What about places to rest or even an area specifically for stretching? Any thing else you can think of would be a great help.
So you know I’m not talking about opening a franchise gym like Golds…I mean a warehouse or hell closet with heavy shit to move around and get strong with![/quote]
Locker room with shower is a pretty big deal.
Lots of chalk is another nice thing.
Towels (little ones for workouts and big ones for showers)
Stretching space
MRP and protein shakes are good, though I dont think you need fresh fruit and all that jazz… maybe just keep Surge, creatine, milk, ice and a blender and sell it by the shake?
A push/pull sled
Cant really think of anything else that sounds fun.

That’s what the trash cans are for.

A dip bar and weighted dip belt should be considered a must IMO.
NO EXERCISE BALLS!
I wouldn’t provide towels because then you have to wash them. People can bring their own.
I also don’t know about the selling supplements thing. What are you going to do, stock up on Surge and sell it by the scoop? Seems like a waste of time and money. Selling bottled water and gatorade would be enough.

Thats why the towels are considered an “extra”. They’re one of the things I’d put in as soon as the gym was making enough to afford laundry services.
It wouldnt be hard to mix up Surge shakes and sell them for 2 or 3 bucks.

Surely some towels will be available next to some disinfectant squirt bottles I hope. Depending on how many towels you purchase you could probably go a few days before you actually had a full load of towels to wash.
